Let us discuss Politics!

You know, there are sooooo many strategic, golden nuggets in political strategy that are easily applicable to business strategy, I really can't believe that it, as a topic, is not allowed here!

Are you kidding me?

And with one of the most entertaining political seasons on the forefront, I'm telling you. It would be an outright mistake not to watch it, discuss it, and learn from it as a businessperson. I'm high-fiving anyone who read "The Game Change" by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin cause they know exactly what I'm talking about.

So how about it?

I don't think politics will get you far in internet marketing.

For example, Barack Obama doesn't employ list building, and most likely doesn't care about how big it is...

While it may be forbidden, it is still widely talked about in the off topic forum.

Al - I wouldn't say "widely". It's a very few members who seem to have immunity.

While it may be helpful to talk about how Obama did his social media stuff - which was great for him - this would ruin almost every single thread down there.

Instead of many/most threads always turning into something sexual, fat jokes, or whatever it would add the politics which always - 100% of the time - without fail turns nasty. Every time. Without fail.

    Very. Bad. Idea. IMHO.

    Mark

PS If you had been here longer and had seen how it turns out - every time - you would not ask for this.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone would have a problem with discussing strategies employed by politicians and how they relate to business. Where it gets dicey, and always turns ugly is when people start interjecting their personal stances on political issues.

Many, many years ago politics were allowed to be discussed in what's now known as The Off Topic Forum. Here's the problem: people would let their emotions run wild and it became a moderating nightmare.

So the previous owner decided enough was enough; if people wanted to discuss religion or politics they should go to a religious or political forum to have those discussions. I'm glad the new ownership decided to stay with that.

So while it sounds good in theory to discuss these things, it's not practical for an internet marketing forum, especially when it creates more work for the moderators who should be using their time moderating threads about internet marketing, not political threads that almost always turn into bashing and flame wars.

Besides, you can gleam far more business know-how from other successful marketers and entrepreneurs than anything related to politics.
