"I am sorry to bump an old thread but..."

In a main forum section thread (previous post in that thread - 2014):

I am sorry to bump an old thread but my new thread on this topic could not post.
The quote above explains in part the increase in 2-8 year old threads being "bumped"? There is no alert for new members (or anyone) about the NEW practice of moderating threads before they go live. New members see a "ghosted" looking post and assume they can't start a thread....so they find an old thread to post in.

On the main forum page where sections are listed - the TOP section should be "Forum Rules and Practices". Right above "main forum". Closed threads explaining everything from sigs to ad payments to moderating practices- in one place where people will SEE them.

Some of this should be intuitive (a/k/a common sense) for people who own a forum....put the rules where members can't avoid seeing them. Then there are no excuses for violating them.

Put the moderating practices and restrictions/announcements where people can read them and understand what's happening.

Currently the only place to "read the rules" is in the "news" section with an average of 8-10 visitors at any one time...and near the bottom of the list of 'sections'.

Kay, I brought the rules placement issue to their attention and they thanked me for my feedback...and promptly ignored it. This is a two minute fix and does not require "engineering" or whatever other excuse MGMT uses.

It's evident this forum is not only not interested in improvement, but it's also not interested in common sense operations.

They could also just add a simple redirect that tells the person that their post has gone to moderation, instead of just ghosting it. On many forums this is the practice, especially for new members.

They seem to be selective about how, when, and where this moderation is administered so here is a suggestion

Apply this to any old threads getting bumped, You can set the time frame, something like 6 months since last post, then if it is thread worth keeping alive, and the post adds to the thread then approve and if it is not delete and close thread
