Teens Still Using Facebook Even Though They Say It isn't Important

If you happen to have teenagers, you probably are aware of the fact that many of them don't really mean what they say a lot of the time. Some just like to brag, while others may be trying to test you. The same thing is true when it comes to what they have to say regarding social media websites. For example, teenagers were asked in a recent poll if Facebook was something that was important to them. Just 14% said yes. However, Facebook is used by more than half of U.S. teenagers, which appears to contradict what most of them are saying. The following is an overview of the study, what the findings mean, and what can be expected when it comes to attracting teens with Facebook in the future.

Method Used For Collecting The Information

The information was just collected by the company looking at what was being said by teens. They found that just 14% of teens considered Facebook to be useful. According to Piper Jaffray, it has been decreasing for a while now. It was at 33% in 2013, and it was 23% in 2014. However, Instagram is owned by Facebook, which at 32% is considered the most popular. In second place was Twitter. Snapchat was just at 13%, which was quite a bit lower than Facebook. However, with Facebook trending down, it is possible it might not continue to be really popular for very long.

What Teenagers Actually Mean

However, in reality, despite what teens say, more than 70% of them use Facebook. Maybe what they are thinking and saying is that it isn't cool using something that is used by adults. However, it is something they actually use every day. The older kids in the survey used the service more. So it does appear that Facebook caters to those who are older. Using something like Instagram is easier. Peer pressure is another thing that needs to be considered. Most of their friends use it, so they won't say they really do use Facebook.

Where Do Other Social Media Platforms Fit In?

In the study's conclusion, it showed that 75% of teenagers used Twitter and 68% used Snapchat. That appears to be more consistent with actual usage on those platforms, which shows they aren't afraid to say they are using the same thing as their friends, and that they also do use those platforms.

Based on the surveys, it's obvious that what teenagers say can't be trusted in terms of what they really use online. Many factors are involved, including what they actually do and what it's cool to admit to all factor into the survey results. Most likely, teenagers use most all of these most of the time. It's easier to express what is actually going on. However, when a survey is conducted, there appears to be some leeway when it comes to the results received. This study definitely shows this is very true when it comes to teenagers.

Twitter Is Changing Its Homepage For Users Who Are Not Logged In

Previously, Twitter didn't consider the impact that the initial page might have on users who were not logged in. What that means was that prospective users were basically getting a dead-end whenever they landed on Twitter, which didn't convert a higher percentage of them into users. A majority of people would just click away and do something else. Twitter made the decision to take a step back and change their home page for people first visiting it and who haven't signed it. The change is to help ensure that more people sign up for Twitter.

Range Of Topics That Are Currently Being Tweeted Is Showcased

The goal is to have what is being discussed currently on Twitter to be highlighted to entice visitors to sign up. That is why the new home page has a range of various topics listed on the left hand side so that visitors can take a look at it. If there is a topic that's interesting to them, they can either sign in or sign up for an account.

This helps to ensure that more interaction occurs and that every visit has a purpose behind it. This provides Twitter with more leverage and keeps users online for longer, while also attracting new users.

Currently Available Just In The US

Right now, the test has just started. It has been determined that the initial launch has been successful in the US. Testing the market reaction to the new home page is the main goal here, and to see what people are saying about it compared to the old home page. Do people like the new page? In terms of the influx of new users, are the results due to the home page being changed?

Signs right now appear to all be positive. Twitter is experiencing increased activity due to the changes to their home page in the US.

Crisp Layout

Any changes of this nature to the home page will be heavily criticized unless there is a useful point to it and loading times are not bogged down. People loved how simple the old home page was. It was straight to the point. It all boiled down to whether or not you wanted to sign in. However, the change hasn't slowed the loading times down at all. The home page also features a nice layout for those wanting something crisp to look at when the site appears in their browser. The page is easy to look at and easy to use.

These are the changes that Twitter is instituting to increase its user base, which is already more than 200 million users. The small changes will really help to ensure that users will want to continue coming back, and that there will continue to be new users signing up.

Frequently the home page can make or break how valuable a site is. This is why Twitter has decided to emphasize how important it is to have an attractive and enticing home page. The analytics from the US support this decision, with data showing that the new home page has been very successful.

While using Halbertology, be sure to also use the tips mentioned in the following article:

A Few Tips & Tricks On How To Squeeze More Clicks And Opens From Your Broadcast Emails - PART 1

When it comes to marketing your business, products or services online, email marketing is an extremely effective way to do so. Most people that surf the internet have an email address that they check on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, most modern day people are addicted to checking their email and with the advent of smart phones, people check their email at least a dozen times per day. So, as you see, email marketing can be an extremely effective way to get more customers and make more sales. One way to do this is by using broadcast emails, but the typical issue is actually getting people to click and open them. In this article we will be looking at a few ways that you can achieve just that.

One of my first tips is that you should always ensure that your email goes in the main folder of the recipient’s email. Most emails are usually dumped in the promotional tab or even in the junk folder if you’re using an unverified mailer. Therefore, make sure to use a well recommended emailing service and within the body of your email, ask your subscriber to mark your email as a known sender so that the emails end up in their main folder. This will drastically improve how many people open and see your emails in the future.

Below is PART 2 and the conclusion of the article...

Another tip is that in order to get your email clicked, you need to make the title of your email interesting and attention grabbing. There is nothing worse than a boring email header and if it is something generic, then you can bet that very few people will even give it a second glance. If you are unsure about how to make your headline stand out, then you should probably study a few copy-writing techniques that show you how to write a good headline. Alternatively, you can look at sample headlines from sites like Upworthy and think about headlines that make the reader more curious so that they want to click on the email to see what it’s all about.

Lastly, before sending out a broadcast email, you should definitely divide your email subscriber base according to different segments such as previous buyers and new prospects. The main reason behind this is that you shouldn’t be marketing in the same way to both groups. This will be quite ineffective and it is better to send separate email broadcasts according to where each person is in your funnel. For example, if you are sending an email to your previous buyers, then you may want to thank them for their previous purchase and offer them a special discount on your next product. Alternatively, when it comes to new prospects, you should inform them more about your products and offer a free trial.

In closing, we have just looked at a few ways that you can immediately improve your email campaigns and get more clicks and opens. Sure, it can be tough and experimental work, but you will definitely see results if you persevere.
