The SEO analysis feature in Traffic Travis is a great way to spy on your top competitors to find out what optimization methods they are using to rank on the first page of Google. You will learn everything you want to know about these top-ranking sites from the number of backlinks they hate to what directories they've submitted to, as well as if they’re using the keyword in the page title or description. To use the SEO analysis feature, you simply enter the keyword phrase you want to target, choose the initial search location and click analyze.

The initial search would only be change from the default if you were targeting searches in a specific country. Traffic Travis researches the top 20 results for the phrase you enter based on the selected search location. Generally you want to focus on the top 10 results, as these are the sites that are listed on the first page of Google search results. However, the other high-ranking sites may offer you additional ideas on how you can optimize your own site.

Traffic Travis analyzes the top sites and displays its findings shown in the order they appear on Google search results. The column headings at the top of the report list various SEO features that are available to boost the sites ranking. Let’s look at these in a bit more detail:
  • The rank column is where the site appears on Google’s search results for the phrase entered and chosen search location.
  • The PR column is the sites current page rank- a measure of the sites importance according to Google.
  • The age column is the approximate age of the domain; the older the domain, the better.
  • The BL column is the total number of backlinks to that page. The more quality backlinks a page has, the higher its page rank.
  • The BLS column is the total number of backlinks for the entire site. While backlinks to the page are more valuable for ranking, the number of backlinks for the entire site will increase the overall page rank of the site and thus improve the pages ranking.
  • The TBL column is the total number of backlinks for the entire sire from EDU or GOV sites. These backlinks tend to be more valued by Google.

The next five attributes are shown as a tick yes or a cross no:

1. DMOZ – is the site listed in the DMOZ directory? While the process submitting to DMOZ can take some time, it boosts site authority and ranking.

2. YAHD – is the site listed in the Yahoo directory? Listing in Yahoo can cost a few hundred dollars but a lot of sites find this pays for itself in SEO benefits.

3. Title – is the keyword in the page title? This is an easy optimization change to make, but even some big sites don’t do it.

4. DESC – is the keyword in the page description? The page description appears as a snippet on the Google search results page, giving searchers an overview of your site. Search engines also use it to determine a pages content and relevance to a search query.

5. H1 tag – is the keyword in any H1 page headers? These are headings that use H1 style and are important to search engines trying to summarize your pages content.
  • GCA – The Google cash age in days. The lower this number, the more indexing priority Google gives to this site. It indicates that Google views this site as important and is being updated regularly.
  • CEXT – The number of sites based in the country selected as the initial search location, which are linking to this site. This is based on the sites TLD.

For example, a site without a “.co.jp ” is assumed to be based in Japan.

You can save this complete report created by Traffic Travis for future reference by clicking the save report button to save as an html file that can be viewed in any web browser. If you wanted to take this analysis even further, you could choose a high-ranking webpage and use the page analysis feature in Traffic Travis to get detailed information on how the page content has been search engine optimized. This will give you some good ideas on how you can fine tune your own web pages to maximize your chances of a high-ranking on Google’s search results.

Traffic Travis’s keyword finder helps you discover popular keywords for your target market. All you need to do is type a keyword into the search box and click fetch keywords. The keyword finder will search Yahoo, Ask, Word Tracker and Google to bring back the top keywords phrases based on the keyword you entered. Note that the free version of Traffic Travis will bring back a maximum of 200 keywords, but if you upgrade to Traffic Travis Pro, you can bring back up to 3000 keywords.

In Traffic Travis beside each keyword result you can view the popularity of the keyword in each of the three search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN). These figures represent the number of searches made each day using this keyword. Highlight the keywords you want to use and click move to saved. You should continue searching until you feel you have a sufficient amount of keywords to work with, then click send to sorter to start editing your keywords. Traffic Travis’s keyword sorter helps you to support your keywords into focused ad groups for Pay-Per-Click (PPC) marketing. Before you start working with your list of words in the sorter, you can choose to make some modifications. For example, you might want to sort your keywords alphabetically, remove duplicate words, or even remove phrases over a certain length. You can also save your keyword list, import keywords from a file, or clear all your keywords.

Once this is done, Traffic Travis allows you to then start sorting your keywords into ad groups. To do this, search through your list for a keyword phrase. Traffic Travis’s sorter will find all of the match keywords and group them together. The keywords that don’t match will be grouped together separately. You can save the matched keywords into a group or you can even edit them first by deleting or adding keywords. Once saved, the set will be added to the saved sets window from which you can save and export your completed lists finished from Traffic. You’re then going to want to replace the un-matching keywords to the main keyword list and continue sorting into matching sets. Once you finish this, you can save the sets to a file, copy them to your clipboard, or just clear the lists and start again. Traffic Travis’s keyword finder is so simple to use, but so powerful in terms of discovering the most popular keywords for your specific target market.

The amount of backlinks and age of the competing sites. If the competing sites are using the keyword in the title and your chance of being able to beat the competition. Its a great simple, easy to use to use tool that will help point you in the right direction with your SEO.

Thanks for your replies guys. I feel a lot more confident in using Traffic Travis now. I have a lot of keyword research that needs to be done and I certainly wouldn't want to find and research 100 keyphrases using Traffic Travis, to only later find out that the program is no good.

Once again, thanks!

Haven't really played with TT4 even though I do have full access to it.

I can understand why the OP would be pissed though, it is advertised as an all in one software to do everything you need for SEO, and it does not really mention that you NEED a vpn or proxies to do any real scraping. You need them not only for the competition module but also to track rank.

I have HMA Pro so I have no issues scraping with TT. I just set the IP to change every 5 minutes during my rank tracking and I just use a new IP before every new round of competition data scraping.

Personally I like it, I understand why people are pissed about the extra expense of proxies though.. not very up front of the TT team.

Lately I have been using TT in conjunction with Long tail pro for competition analysis, I find that using both of them together gives me a more accurate picture of the landscape when I need to be more accurate. With easier niches I just do a quickie on TT and go for it... but when its a big daddy traffic niche I will spend some time..

I just wanted to chime in here, any tool is going to have strengths and weaknesses... and NO TOOL is going to do all you need for SEO no matter what anyone says. I personally own TT, Market samurai, and long tail pro for different reasons. Each one has its function that it does better than the rest.

None of these tools mean jack without that tool between your ears doing most of the work though
