Very cool. I think you could probably bring the background out just a tad more. Very nice colors and balance of fonts. So far so good.

Anyone else have something to add?

    I like it.

But with conversion you never know. Split test headers and see how it goes. Maybe you could also survey your list about your header?

Also post in the conversion section of this forum for more opinions.

    Cheers,

    C.G.

Then you shouldn't be wasting a second of your time worrying about colors and fonts lol.

Yes, I suppose so, perfectly fair point lol.

Long experience has taught me that people who think about their sites primarily in terms of their design/appearance, without even having started building a list yet, are sometimes also people who haven't quite appreciated yet that the primary purpose of their websites ought to be "to collect the visitors' email addresses" because the realities predicate that there won't be much income without that. So that's my perspective. In truth, of course, both are important, but as long as a website's fairly clean and simple and uncluttered (and isn't packed out with garish pictures, 1990's style, and avoids "gross and obvious mistakes" like white letters on a black background), the income-determining part of the equation is always going to center predominantly around how effective the site is at collecting the email addresses of the subgroup of visitors likely to turn into the best future customers, and everything else is kind of "academic" by comparison lol.

PS I think your header, above, looks very nice lol.

If your target market is 10-year-old girls you might have a winner. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board.

I would go in a different direction entirely. Try a big bold font with all caps and the text stacked like this:

    PUT MY
    COOKIE
    DOWN

Drop the background images. They are really corny by 2015 standards.

This was my first thought- the fonts and colors do not match the niche you are stating.

I looked at it and I thought: "Girls, Disney, Young Girls, Romance, Make Up, Girl's Fashion"

Then I read "Movie review / Game footage / Entertainment news"

Movie reviews and Game Footage are mostly a young male demographic unless you target a smaller female niche

      Entertainment News could be anything.

So the niche you are targeting with your sub-headline, is not the niche you are appealing to with your header.

Unless you are targeting a sub-niche of romantic girls who watch movies and game, but then you should be more specific in your sub-heading.

I also did not like the font and agree with the above that it should be bold and easier to read.

    Nice effort indeed.
Try experimenting with the following to see if it looks good:
    1. Removing black stroke on the text in white.
    2. Removing shadows

Designs these days are usually destituted of these effects

I think the font is too small and wrong. My advice is to let other people have a go at designing a banner for you. I use the Contest section at digitalpoint.com and offer a $20 prize to the best entrant. It's amazing just how good some of the entrants are and its fun judging them and selecting a winner. In every case I've got something that is massively better than anything I could think of!

The text also looks bigger and better on the mobile version, which is mainly the traffic I'll be trying to direct.

I think the "put my cookie down" part is too condensed and difficult to read, I'd make it a bit bigger.. Like the color scheme and everything else though

Much better. That's enough work on the header.

Now listen to Alexa and start working on building your list and core audience.

I prefer the first one, for two main reasons lol ...

      (i) I think the color's much better. Bright red I associate with "hype" and "screaming sales pages" and very poor conversion rates. In all the split-testing I've seen done, in which bright red was one of the colors tested, it's always been the worst-performing color. (I'm not talking only about sales, either.) Just my perspective. Your mileage may vary. The point is that you can know this only by split-testing, not by asking people in a forum for their opinions. And all the time spent doing that is time that you're not spending on designing your site around the incentivized opt-in so that you can make some money. All of which is fine if you're a website design enthusiast, with loads of website design techie-skills. But be aware that people with website design techie-skills and interests are generally working for marketers who build lists lol;

(ii) Capital letters (contrary to what many people have more or less been brought up to believe) are actually slower and harder for people to read than lower-case lettering, and a fraction off-putting. I think there's actually a relatively objective, verifiable, provable point here, not purely a "my perspective and your mileage may vary" one. I think the chances are overwhelming that you're better off with lower-case lettering, and that there are good and reliable and valid reasons for that which are going to apply to you just like they apply to the rest of us lol.

My word ... how easy it is to spend hours discussing interesting stuff like this which is of only very tangential (if any) relevance to one's income lol.

I think they both look nice.

One of them kind of reminds me of Netflix. Not sure why ? Just a gut reaction.

        But nice

Spon I really like #2 because the image and words jump out at you. Well done.

I'd separate the words though. Doing so adds greater clarity to your header and to your brand overall. People will know exactly what you're getting at because they'll see the continuous phrase in your URL/domain and then you'll see the separate words in the header to add power and clarity to your message.

    Keep up the great work!

Try the red one in title case (upper and lower case letters), no shadow. Make sure your products are in the order which fits the biggest amount of content on your site.

If movie reviews are your biggest amount of content, leave that first first, if its gaming, move that to the first position.

Its hard to tell what entertainment means.

The only goal with your header is to keep peopl from running away, and you don't want your header graphic so dense that people get irritated in how long it take to download form your site.

If you can swing it, use a full width red bar across your page, with the put your cookie graphic in the middle, unless your site is already OK with responsiveness.

Make something that is very easy to remember for brand recall. Among the ones you've designed, #2 looks good.

i would say #2 is better as far as general appeal goes, though neither will be effective. i understand you're designing a header, but first & foremost you need to have a solid brand logo. for example, nike can put their swoosh on any background and you instantly recognize it as nike because of their brand label. other examples would be IMDB or even Mr. Skin.

over my 20 years of website design experience i've learned a lot from my graphics partner/mentor (david grogg, google him!) that simple is better. two color designs for logos work better than 4 color (full color) because you can transpose them onto different backgrounds without altering your logo/branding...

i hope this helps! if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM :-)
