Hi Warriors,
I need your best advice & recommendations on my concern.
I wanted to make a website that will cater B2B E-Commerce.
I already had the concept and processes. However my setback,
I am not a techie person.

My plan is to get a website builder/developer in our country but my
concerns had accumulated like;
1. How to select a Good Website Developer?
2. What are dynamics & ingredients to look for?
3. Wordpress or woo?
4. other what ifs & what are's?

Looking forward your positive response on this matter. Thank you.

Regards,

Warren

    1. Look at their fortopolio, even better tell them to do a task to test their skills.
    2. Many sites including giant sites now have fixed social media buttons their site for easier access to social media, have some of those.
    3. Does not matter, what matter is the design, easy access and easy navigation.
    4. Sell good quality stuff.

      Hello Asian Guy,

Thanks for the advice. However, I just want to know what possible tasks to test the developers? Any suggestion?

Anything you want them to do, a skilled website designer should able to handle any task, you should browse some websites first as reference of what you want to be done but never tell them about those sites because some peoples could just copy the script and not make it from the beginning with their own skills.

Maybe tell them to make similar interractive social media buttons like Custom Interractive Social Media Buttons

          Hi Asian Guy,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will ask them to do it. I will give you feedback whats the result.
By the way, is it a good move to pay first domain/hosting/SSL before entering full package contract?
How about if they will say its included in the package? How much would it cost if I will personally get
hosting, domain & ssl? Is it possible? How?

My current expertise is custom interractive social media buttons design, website's appearance design and making modules to force peoples to tweet, follow, plus, etc a page before they can see it so I can't answer your question because it will probably the wrong answer.

Anyway about the link I posted, just screen capture it except for the url, tell them to make similar social media buttons like that where :
            - The buttons are in fixed position even when you scroll it, it still stay on the same position.
            - The buttons have to stay at the center of the background image, good skills are needed for this.
            - Tell them to use similar background image that are transparent, not a square or retangular image because that kindof image is much more easier to work with.
            - The text are animated just like the "like meow" text on that link.
            - A sound are played when you try to move your mouse on the button just like when you try to move your mouse on the catgirl on the link.

If they can do just that, then they are good designer in my opinion because I'm sure there is no template and plugin that can make the buttons on the link, the button you see is one of its kind.

If you want to hire a reliable developer then you can check their portfolios to find out and check the quality of their work. Before hiring a developer also make sure that the developer always meet the project deadline. It is also not a good practice to hire fresh developers, because they might be able to develop a web application but they won't be able to create a secure application. Fresh developers usually make designing mistakes and clients have to pay tenfold cost afterwords to fix the designing and security flaws in the application.

WordPress is an open source platform and it has endless numbers of plugins and users are not even aware of all the plugins and any developer can create and use a plugin in wordpress.

The most popular WordPress e-commerce plugin is Woo Commerce and I would recommend it if you want WordPress e-commerce website. Woo Commerce is a free plugin and it is easy to setup and does not require you to have any technical knowledge to customize your e-commerce website. It has large amount of extensions and it offer a lot of payment gateways for payment methods.

      Hi Claire,

Thanks for the very sound advice.

Fyi, I already talk to a couple of web developers. All of which have portfolios already that were used by several industries in our country. They assure me about platforms and securities of applications. One of which, after discussing my concept and flow told me that they are going to used Wordpress but later on told me they will use Laravel. If you don't mind, can you provide me advantages & disadvantages of these two platforms? Would laravel platform has endless numbers of plugins too?

From your point of view, how long would it take to make a website and the possible cost? One of the developers told me that they can accomplish my requirement within 3 months time and the cost is Php 500,000 (or &10,000). Is the cost expensive? May I know also, if by doing web development is this already a type of customize system or software?..Regards..

If you have no or almost no budget then you should go for the WordPress + WooCommerce combination.
It is a free open source eCommerce solution with a huge online community.

If you want to hire a pro or an agency go for someone local. Makes it all easier, the first contact, cultural sensitivity etc.

    Follow these steps:
    1. ask for their portfolios.
    2. ask for their work experience.
    3. ask for the preferred technology they are using and how it will benefit your business setup.
    4. more importantly check for their reviews if you are hiring on online freelancing platforms such as Upwork, Freelancer.

    Hopes this help
