Hello Warrior's. I want to make a health website focusing on giving people advice on health and nutrition. It would be a content rich site, but now and then i'd like to write blog entry's. What would i need to be able to do this, could i use wordpress for this or would i need some web developing software like dreamweaver?

    Wrong question.

DW is a desktop editor: you have to create the code for each and every web page of yours; and you have to come up with the design.

WP is an online publishing tool: it takes care of the layout/design; you just need to write the content.

It doesn't make sense to compare them.

If your site is going to be a smaller content site then Wordpress will suit you just fine. Wordpress is a blog platform but its possible to use tags and categories to sort your website in a way that makes it seem like a content database.

If you're going for authority-site status and plan on making your site huge then a content management system like Joomla or Drupal may be something you'd want to consider. These platforms are capable of both small and large website production but their learning curve is also much greater.

As for Dreamweaver, it gives you the tools to design everything from the ground up. However, extensive knowledge in CSS, HTML, and PHP would be required for you to consider using Dreamweaver. It gives you complete control over your site's design and code structure but learning how to properly utilize this control is not easy. There are college degrees you can take for this, thats how deep this subject goes.

If you're a beginner, go with Wordpress! Its easy to use and the search engines love it.

WordPress can also be used as a content management system, every bit as much as Joomla or Drupal could.

It also has both more support, and more newbie friendliness than other options.

A Wordpress site certainly could attain authority status based on quality and search-engine friendliness. The point I was trying to make is that if you want a hugely complex, feature-rich website then a content management system like Joomla or Drupal are better in the long run. If your site is going to be on a small to medium scale then Wordpress is by far your best option.

I am using Dreamweaver a lot than Wordpress because of its ease and efficiency of use.
Dreamweaver is an extremely useful tool for novice and expert webmasters alike. Dreamweaver is like a toy tool - it's useful for starting out into web development new developers might find the layout view intuitive. And even the drag-and-drop widgets/controls for hooking up to a database might be useful for basic tasks.

You can still compare them.... and in my opinion the choice is easy for this question:

      Wordpress!

ha, wordpress is written in PHP and it would be a somewhat unusual choice (though not unheard of) to choose Dreamweaver as your PHP editor

You point is debatable, but kind of reasonable. HOWEVER... based on the apparent level of the original poster it seems quite reasonable to believe that Wordpress is the clear best option for a CMS for them.

Are they really going to get to the extreme points where drupal/joomla could arguably have an edge over Wordpress with in the next couple of years? (if at all) I'd say not likely.

Many theme developers do use DW as their preferred editor.

You have to learn a bit more about WP before telling me that the theme files are not html code
Despite their .php extension and the use of the template tags in them - the layout/look/design... is pure (X)HTML + CSS.

If you can find a template that suits your needs I would just suggest using Wordpress. It's certainly easier than trying to build your own site from scratch using Dreamweaver. You'll be able to concentrate on your content and let Wordpress run the site on your behalf.

As has been stated before Wordpress is a blogging software/application. Dreamweaver is a web design authoring software. For your needs I would defiantly go with Wordpress. I wouldn't choose Dreamweaver even if I wanted web authoring software. Visual Studio is better and it's free. you can use web authoring software to edit pages from Wordpress and to do any markup you want to use in your Wordpress post. Simply build it in VS or if you must DW and then cut & paste it to Wordpress.

What? You can also find a suitable CSS/XHTML template to load into Dreamweaver and build an equally awesome site. You are NOT trying to build a site from scratch at all. Very misleading. Check out Themeforest and other places.

Seems WP fans always think templates are just for them. Wake up. Lots of other good stuff out there.

Using Dreamweaver and a CMS together is good too. Dreamweaver has so many time saving tools when putting sites together. Then just separate out the content for your CMS - your CSS and Javascript should already be separate, so away you go.

If you don't know too much about coding definitely go with wordpress. You can actually get by with wordpress without having to know PHP. If you want to manipulate certain features on Wordpress all you have to do is use a plug in. You can easily learn the basics of Wordpress by playing around with it. In addition, many web host will install the wordpress script for free.

Dreamweaver can be used to design all three types of sites - for example, you can create a Drupal site, Dreamweaver or Dreamweaver.WordPress WordPress blog site is primarily a tool. Yes, many people are beginning to use it to manage their entire site.

    • in addition to the above, also consider that if you ever flip your site, it will be easier for the buyer to work a zip file with html files, than a WP database

Wordpress and Dreamweaver are 2 different things..... If you're planning on doing actual writing, then Wordpress would be better for you. Also, Blogspot, Blogger, or Livejournal are good blogging platforms as well.

    Hi,
it is better to choose CMS rather going on with Dream weaver because Dream weaver sounds good for design but Functionality wise CMS is flexible so i prefer Word press or what ever CMS suits it

WordPress facilitate a whole range of things to be found, such as ping and tagging. It also allows cross-references, and this is good for you, so you can easily get a link to your website referrals.

I uses wordpress when I need a blog and wordpress will take care for everything only you need to add posts.

In Dreamweaver we can create a page from scratch and use our designing skills.

So in short wordpress is for blog and Dreamweaver is for website.

I agree with many of the ops in that Dreamweaver is a web authoring tool and WP is a blogging platform that can be used as a CMS. If you have the inclination to design your own website from the ground up then use DW. I have to warn you that there is a much steeper learning curve associated with DW compared to learning how to use WP. If you are really inclined to use WP you can use DW to modify its design with a DW addin like Themedreamer.
