Hi guys, I've done a fair bit of searching and reading here before starting this thread to avoid wasting peoples time with dumb questions. Hope it worked

I'm in the process of setting up a wordpress blog and in need of a theme.

The theme requirements are
-suitable for adsense and amazon with clickbank suitability a bonus
-3 column set up
-two wide skyscrapers left and right with an area above the fold for ads
-suitable for a product that is very visual, my niche is a tourism niche

So far I've come across
-heat map theme for $70, looks good
-wp_009 that I have already downloaded
-woo themes and socrates premium themes that were highly recommended
-tailored theme by a warrior here for $300
-Atahualpa
-and lots more

Feeling a bit lost with all these themes so I' really appreciate some suggestions/advice/pointers from the experts here on a free or paid for theme (happy to pay up to $100) that would meet my requirements.

    Brendon,

I use Heatmap almost exclusively. As far as I know it does not have a 3 column option but since I do not use 3 columns on any of my sites I may be mistaken about that. Once you get your head wrapped around how the ads work it's a beautiful tool. Ad placement is easy, you can customize and if you use menuing like I do in an online gift shop it's simplicity in itself.

I love it for it's flexibility and the control you have of putting sidebar advertisements on specific pages. If three column isn't a deal breaker for you my vote is for Heatmap.

I use Canvas by WooThemes it has various 3 column layouts you can select. Also possible to make both biz and magazine frontend, slider, change colors etc.

Thanks Gene, Heatmap looks like a good choice if I can't find a suitable 3 column set up.

Thanks Andreas, I'll head over to Woothemes now and check it out.

What sort of monetization methods do you use on your blog with the canvas theme?

I use my own affiliate plugin stuff. So custom offers, Amazon and ClickBank.

Looks like you will get a lot of different answers lol!

I know how hard this is because I had a hard time deciding on a theme.

Although i would say that Thesis gets my vote!

Hands down the best theme I have used and you can customize it fairly easily as well.

    $300 for a theme <-- LOL

Why dont i always get customers willing to spend that much? I have seen people who are not even willing to pay $150 for a complete site from scratch, including custom theme.

    As to answer your question:

I myself use either thesis..or make custom themes with artisteer. Your requirements are pretty standard, IMO.

My company uses Thesis themes. Without question, it is the best theme to use. Definitely coded properly. Search engine friendly and it is able to be customized.

Thesis website is pretty unfriendly. No contact page and you can only register an account if you buy a product. Not encouraging.

Thanks every one for your feedback.

Theis does look good. Bit pricy at $87 but worth it if it does the job. The list of people using it is impressive.

Does Thesis come with or can it be customized to meet the requirements I mentioned such as 3 column layout with left/right skyscrapers etc

    Quick question.

If I set up my blog using one theme then change over to a new theme, will the change cause big problems for my blog or just minor modifications?

I think it depends a great deal on the themes (before and after) that are involved. I've switched back and forth between themes many times with little problems.

Of course if you've tweaked the files in the theme you were using that will create problems when you change themes.

Right now I'm using Talian Adsense + SEO. It's very customizable and set up for clickbank, amazon and adsense.

      I think I paid under $40.00

    Hi Brendon,

I guess it depends on how you adjust your post and pages in the old theme, for example, replacement of the older banners, ads if any, the width, etc..

I changed my themes, but before I change it to my blog, I tried everything in my local PC first, by copying exact look and content from the online blog to see how it will look after changing themes, and modify the theme so it won't distract my readers.

That's what I did before applying new theme
