Not sure why you would want to build one that looks like that - but it is an .htm extension on the site.

Although the exact same site could be done using wordpress.

Dreamweaver has a hefty price tag and learning curve.

Do you want to start selling something quicker or are you in the mood to just learn the intricacies of design?

Use Wordpress. Don't waste time on the technical side of things. Content matters the most.

In my opinion i like wordpress, its easy to use and custom css design makes sites look and operate nice. Also, easy to install to your domain through your host provider.

That's got to be one of the worst we site designs I've ever seen, but if that's what you want, try the 90 second Website Builder software.

      Easy to use...full of features....inexpensive

        Why is it the worst?
Is that cheaper than Wordpress? What would be the difference between Website Builder software and Wordpress?

Haha true! but I've made a lot of money online with ugly websites. In fact, the uglier the website, the higher it can convert in high dollar niches.

It depends on the industry I guess.

The ugliest website I ever saw proves that point.

Ling Valentine makes a ton of £'s with the ugliest site I ever saw, it breaks every rule in the book and defies every guru's advice.

Do you need a book on how to create a website on Wordpress to use it, or is it self-explanatory?

It's easy but there is a learning curve. Get a good theme and you will eliminate 95% of the work. Buy a cheap Fiverr logo, change a few colors and you should be go to go. Don't obsess over design until you get 5 solid pages of content first.

If you want to build content, go with Wordpress... However, if you've got a bit of basic programming skills and you want to easily come up with a website without having to go through the learning curve of WP, try other smaller CMSs like Microweber.

Thank you. I see it's free like Weebly and Google Sites. How does it compare to them? Is the learning curve for WP much less than Dreamweaver? Does having more learning curve mean that you can control the site more how you want it to be?

You have to learn some HTML, there are lots of tutorials for free, like in YouTube. Also it helps to know a bit of HTML even if you use WordPress. I absolutely love WordPress by the way!

Like others have said, learn the basics of Wordpress, find a good theme, and add the content. If you want to get further along then you can learn HTML, CSS, jQuery, and PHP and use those skills to develop static templates that you can convert into custom Wordpress themes.

Wordpress is definitely a good jumping off point.

Depends what you want to get out of it really. If you just want a site up then go with wordpress. If you want to learn how to make a site (ala using dreamweaver) I would skip the costly dreamweaver and go with an opensource text editor such as notepad++ or sublime text and read and watch a few html and css tutorials to get the basics.

As others have already pointed out, that's an ugly site... but when I look at it, I just think "That's a 1990's site."

Many of the earliest websites looked no better than that one.

You can have one that replicates the basic design, yet looks far more modern with Wordpress, and you can have it up within a week or two (as an absolute beginner). I could duplicate that site and have it up today with Wordpress (as could anyone reasonably proficient with Wordpress)

As someone who built his first site in notepad, by learning HTML - I say - you gotta be crazy to go Kompozer or Dreamweaver route today!!!

Unless you have a real specific requirements that cannot be met with Wordpress - and the site you reference doesn't - I'll disagree with anyone who sends you to anything other than Wordpress.

You aren't going to use Dreamweaver or Kompozer without the requirement to learn HTML.

I think you still need to learn HTML with Wordpress - but the necessity is far less.

I put in another vote for wordpress. I too started coding with notepad way back and it was a huge time waster. I tried learning php, also a huge waste of time. Could have been doing more productive things like marketing, promotion, ect.

Course depends on what you want to do.

And yes, dreamweaver can be costly and can take some time to learn.

Wordpress doesn't fit for every single need, but it fits for most.

On a side note, wordpress and dreamweaver are kind of two different things. DW is to create websites completely from scratch, wordpress is already a website. Saves SO much time.

These days I do much of my work with wordpress and really only use dreamweaver to edit pages, tweak CSS, and make simple salespages/download pages.

Ok, so I think I'm going to go with Wordpress.
How much does it cost though to operate it?

Also can it do what I want to do? (having a main website at mainwebsite.com and then having different niches at mainwebsite.com/niche1, mainwebsite.com/niche2, mainwebsite.com/niche3 etc)

When the visitor is at mainwebsite.com/niche1, they would not have to see any other niches/topics that branch off from mainwebsite such as mainwebsite.com/niche2 or mainwebsite.com/niche3.

      Is this possible with WordPress?

Wordpress is a clear winner for me.

There are also all kinds of ready-made themes for you.
Squeeze pages, magazine style themes, sales pages... everything is there!

Not to mention the huge amount of plugins you can find.

I am talking about wordpress.org , not .com, of course

    Cheers

Both are the best ways to make a website. But, I would suggest you to use TemplateToaster for making themes and install that theme onto your CMS. I can suggest you this software because I have used this software and get satisfactory output. You may also try this tool once.
