Who should this lead be attributed to?

If two affiliates are promoting a specific lead program and AFF1 is doing PPC while dropping cookies; while AFF2 is doing SEO without cookie dropping.

If someone goes to AFF1 PPC landing page and gets cookied, but doesn't convert there; and instead converts on AFF2 SEO site (after going back to google and clicking on the SEO site).. who gets credited for that lead?

ALSO, what is the industry standard when it comes to cookie tracking? Is it a "last touch" cookie attribution where the one that generated the sale gets credited OR is a "first touch" cookie where the first one that cookies traffic wins?

I've always thought that it was a first touch cookie, but I could be wrong. In your scenario I would be fairly certain that Aff1 would get the commission.

Thank you for your input Marc.

If the "first touch cookie" is indeed the industry standard, I think I see a problem with that.

For instance, if I was an Amazon affiliate and I am competing against another amazon affiliate .. wouldn't it be fair to say that if they visit my competitor first but "do NOT convert" and later on they visit my site and they "DO convert" then it would be fair to attribute the lead/commission to me who converted the visitor on my site instead of the first affiliate who "cookied" the visitor?

IMO the fairest cookie setting would be "last touch" which displaces the previous affiliate cookie and sets mine. Am I wrong?

Generally the last person wins. AFF2 in your case.

But it would depend on your tracking system/settings.

This varies by network, tracking system, etc. several give the option for the person who owns the affiliate program to select, your best bet is to ask your am.
