One of the biggest challenges facing bloggers is getting noticed in your niche. You've got a keyword rich domain name, set up a fantastic blog with the coolest theme and lots of great content, but you're feeling a bit lonely because it feels like your blog has not yet caught on. Well, take heart, fellow blogger. Along with a bit of patience, there are three practical tips you can try to get your blog noticed in your niche.

1. Know your niche and your audience
After you've done the work of selecting your niche, you've got to focus on determining who the best audience is for your blog's content. You can be writing about a basic topic such as basket weaving, but your audience will determine the approach you take as you develop your content. So, if it's adult, female basket weavers between the ages of 18 and 25 you are looking to reach, write your content so that it's geared towards that demographic.

The more your writing resonates with your target audience, the more your blog will get noticed by and shared by the members of that audience. A good rule of thumb for a niche blog is to find a narrow focus and dive deep with your content. A narrow and deep focus is far more effective than a wide and shallow approach. It's also the best way to eventually become known as an expert in your subject area.

Survey your audience regularly, solicit their feedback, read and respond to comments, ask questions and pay attention to the responses. This is how you can keep your ear to the ground, find out what your audience wants, and get noticed in your niche.

2. Build a community around your topic

A great way to get noticed is to begin to build a community around your topic or niche. When a group of people are talking about your topic, sharing your content and creating new content on your domain, you will automatically attract more attention and gain visibility.
  • One of the most effective ways to build community is to ask for comments, reply to every comment that gets left of your blog, and read and comment on other blogs in your niche.
  • Create a Facebook group around a topic that is closely related to but not strictly about your blog.
  • Create an online forum where people can actually sign up, create a profile, ask questions and share their expertise on the topic.

3. Guest blogging on popular blogs in your niche
Make a list of the top ten blogs in your niche, and then ten more which may not be specifically in your niche, but they appeal to the same audience as your blog. Read their posts, comment on their blogs and begin to develop a relationship with the bloggers.

Develop a list of topics that you will write guest posts on, find out which of the top blogs that you have identified allow guest bloggers and then contact the ones who do about doing a guest blogging gig.
