Need advice on maximizing revenue and preventing complete loss of said revenue?

About a year ago I threw together a simple site that targets a very specific niche. My site is a tool that helps people use a specific service. I have no products to sell or anything like that, it's literally just a free "tool" that works hand in hand with said service.

I developed the site to help out a few people and to learn a few new programing languages, never thinking it would take off, but things are starting to really pick up...

Currently, the site gets around 3,000 unique visitors every day. I am using a mixture of adsense and amazon for ads and i'm generating $1200-$1500 every month with probably 90% of that coming from adsense and the remainder from amazon.

I am very happy with the revenue the site is generating, but I feel like I'm missing out somewhere since I'm only really using adsense.

I also have the issue of potentially losing everything overnight...

Since the site is based 100% on a specific service, if CompanyX decides to shut that service down, my site would be completely useless. Bye bye visitors, bye bye revenue.

So to sum it all up, I guess what I'm asking is:

1) Should I be looking at better ways to make revenue other than adsense? I know the answer is yes, but some ideas would be great!

and

2) Has anyone dealt with a situation where their site would be rendered completely useless because it was based on another service out of your control? If so, what did you do to prevent this? For instance, a blog specifically about google+ might become pretty useless when google shuts down google+ here in the near future.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Turn the table a bit on this.. what can you do to help ensure the product you are piggybanking doesnt go under? Just a quick question.. do they have an affiliate program? Even if they dont.. i would try and contact the company and see if you can work out a deal of some sort to help them drive traffic

To answer your second question... what can you do? If you have a blog about G+ you transition your content to another social outlet.
