Google is now changing their policy with underdeveloped domains and are actually retiring their hosted domains product within Adsense.

This means any domains without content that you are hosting by using their adsense for domains product will become inactive and you won’t be able to earn from them.

Just to be clear this is NOT the regular google adsense product we are talking about – If you have a domain with content and with ads, there is nothing to see here, please move on, it will continue to function as normal.

So again nothing to worry about if you are using Google adsense the regular way with a regular website with content. Of course you still need to focus on great content and the like, but you don’t have to worry about Google retiring your domain.

I personally think this is well overdue (even though I have benefited from this program in the past). Using this product largely meant you were looking for “type in” traffic (people typing in the url in google to find your website) since people would not generally find your site otherwise because there was no content on there, just Ads!

It would be hard to argue that the parked domain offered any real benefit to a visitor, so this is really just a case of google “cleaning up” the search engine results pages a little more.

With Google’s new “Content is King” policy it make perfect sense to remove this and force people to actually create content on those domains. Who would have figured that content is going to win out Google Retiring Adsense For Domains In Your Account

The timeline going forward is as follows…

March 21 2012 – You will no longer be able to create any new hosted domains.

April 18 2012 – Any domains you have setup in the Adsense for Domains will become inactive and no additional earning will be possible

June 27 2012 – These domains will no longer be available in Adsense.

My understanding is you will still be able to remove domains you have setup in the Adsense for domains program at any time from the program and add them back into the regular google program, host them properly and put some content and generate income the old fashioned way (This would all be done from the same Adsense account).

I for one welcome our new “No more Adsense for Domains” overlords Google Retiring Adsense For Domains In Your Account Seriously this is a good change, and removes a part of Adsense that did not really offer much to the visitor.

By the way, there are still options for you if you decide you do not want to create a new site.

Google have a Adsense for Domains migration guide if you decide to switch to another domain parking provider.

This would be useful if you decide against creating a new site. Personally I recommend not to bother but to instead focus on creating great sites with real content.

What I think will happen is we will see a mass of domains becoming available to sites like the The Aged Domain Finder or Flippa as people decide not to renew their domains that were parked or try to quickly sell them before the timeframe expires.

If you are buying a domain with income from adsense, be sure you do your homework to ensure its not receiving income from the Adsense for domains project, as this is going to stop earning soon!
