A salesperson is sharp if he knows exactly what a customer ought to buy, even more so than the customer himself. By asking the right questions, that salesperson will sell exactly what the prospect needs
The most effective selling technique then is to be subtle about it. Never offer a product that the prospect won’t buy and don’t mention what you’re selling until you’re sure that he will buy it. The best way is to simply ask your prospects what they want or do not want. In effect, you’re asking them what they WILL buy and this will become your selling point.
In network marketing, an MLM website will get nowhere if it offers female prospects the opportunity to “work from home” or even tempt them with membership in a system whose up line makes $20,000 per month. Married women would be attracted to a home business because it will allow them to spend more time with their children. This is what the prospect will buy and this is the idea that you should sell to women prospects.
This involves the process of elimination in which you discard the thought of what the prospect doesn’t want, and then use that data to figure out the right product for them. In short, the success of your MLM business depends on your ability to sell the product and the business opportunity. Afterwards, you provide the right MLM training for your down line so they can perform both tasks as well.
Here are some sales techniques that you need to master to be among the top producers and leaders in network marketing.
Feature or Function-Based Sales
This type of selling sells the functionality of the service or product. For example, when you purchase a car with its engine, gas pedal, brake pedal and four wheels, it takes you to and from work. You also use the car to buy groceries, go on vacations, take the kids skiing, or just go for a relaxing drive. So you sell the prospective customer the functionality of the product in order to make him purchase it. It’s the most basic of sales technique and it never fails to work.
Benefits-Based Sales
This is the second method of selling which involves telling the potential customer what the product or service will do for them. With benefits-based selling, you provide the product or service benefits to the potential customer in a way that makes it difficult for him not to find it appealing and thus necessary.
The difference between technique number 1 and 2 is that feature-based selling is more descriptive than benefit-based selling. You must understand your product before you can be successful at selling it. Benefit-based selling requires you to have an excellent understanding of how the product can improve the prospect’s life.
Engaging Selling

For online marketing, this is by far the most effective and it’s also the most interesting technique. You engage the potential customer and help them create a sense of ownership over the product or service you are offering. If done right it will compel the visitor to buy. In fact, the urge to do so will be unbearable because this method of selling creates an irresistible compulsion to make the purchase. This technique taps into man’s deepest needs, wants and desires.
Such wants and desires may be related to the universal attraction of a fast and comfortable car, a gourmet meal, the latest communication gadgets, or becoming a millionaire through Internet marketing.
Remember, you do not have any direct contact with your prospects, so your website must catch their interest, compel, and close the sale with words, graphics, and videos. These three sales techniques for Internet marketing will help you do just that.
