Chip Tarver on Internet 'Friends'

By Chip Tarver

[AKA – The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly]

The Bad

'Friends' ... wow, that's surely a loosely used term these days - isn't it? Frankly - using the term 'acquaintance' might even be stretching it.

What do I mean?

Well... I have had over five solid years direct daily experience in meeting folks on the Net, starting relationships, doing all the necessary stuff, and seeing what happens.

The Ugly

Honestly, more than once, I've done my part of a JV only to find that the other so-called 'JV partner' never does his part. Other times, someone has promised to do a mailing for me, but 'never got around to it.'

Still another time, I spent 2 weeks putting together a new tool, only to have my very famous 'partner' say, "I don't have time to do it now."

What BS.

Everyone has exactly the same number of minutes every day as all people have. Why do people lie?

Why are people unfaithful to do as they promise?

Why is some people’s 'word' worthless?

Because that's what THEY CHOOSE to do!

And trust me when I tell you that my experience says that there are more online 'marketers' who behave this way than the ones who don't.

I have no reason to misstate that.

That's my direct, real experience.

Like it or not.

What now?

The Good

Honor your commitments. Your 'word' is the ONLY thing you'll ever truly own. You're just a steward of everything else.

Don’t believe me? When you take your last breath, how much of your stuff will be in a moving van behind your hearse?

(None of it.)

So honor your commitments.

Do what you promise.

Be a person of integrity and truth, not BS and hype.

Do what's right every day.

Love people more than you love money.

[You won’t have a Brinks truck behind your hearse, either.]

Help people achieve their dreams, and you'll be amazed at how others will help you achieve yours. That's a Law you can't change.

Bonus - The Great

What does it take to be 'great' on the Net and in your ordinary daily life? Just be a person whose word is as 'good as gold.'

Do whatever it takes to do your part…

… On time (or early.)

… On budget (or for less.)

… Just as you promised.

Unless you've been around this mess for a long time, you can't understand how common courtesies and commitments can make you 'special.'

Don't chase the money. NEVER chase the money as your goal.

Serve people.

Don't lie.

Tell the truth.

Don’t be a flake.

Be reliable and faithful.

Make any sense to you?

You decide.
