Is Your Selling Proposition Unique Enough?

Experienced Internet Marketers and newcomers alike are finding it more challenging to grow their online businesses and increase their income, and in these challenging times it might come down to whether or not your selling proposition is unique enough.

Everybody is trying to duplicate the perceived “success” they think they see in others, but the practices and principles of doing business online have been changing faster than many marketers can keep up; we might just be chasing our own tails ... or tales, as the case may be.

It’s one thing to build your skill by copying experienced marketers, but in order to take your business to the next level you will have to do something different to set yourself apart.

This is where your unique selling proposition (USP) comes in.

Your USP is what sets you apart and helps to establish you as an expert or preferred source in your field.

It could be how you conduct your business, or some unique aspect about the products or services you sell, or about how you create them or ship them or provide after-sales service for them.

Upon close analysis, you might find that you are selling the same things, using the same marketing methods, offering the same benefits, features and bonuses as your direct competitors. You are not alone. You have plenty of company. The unfortunate fact of the matter is marketers like you (and me) are a dime a dozen.

What you need to do is dig deep to see if there is anything you are doing differently that you can feature and highlight as a unique quality or selling feature. Alternatively, is there anything about your business, your marketing methods, or your products that you can change or improve to MAKE it unique?

You may have to do a study of your competitors to see how they are doing things so you can get some inspiration on what to change or improve in your business. Look at it this way: if you are too much like they are, why would your targeted customers need you? You need to find a way to stand out, and then market that uniqueness aggressively.

Defining or developing a selling proposition that is unique to your business is all part of the successful marketing process. It’s nothing new. If you are planning for the future and expecting your Internet Marketing business to survive and prosper, you will make this exercise a priority. A little effort now will make a huge difference later.

It is intuitive. If my selling proposition is not unique, the prospect will leave, looking for a better price. But, they rarely return. And a sale is lost.

Thanks for sharing necessary information for marketers.

    Hi, David:

Thanks for the comment! Yes, in today's online world "marketing" means "management" - managing all aspects of a business. Developing and promoting one's USP is vital for long term success.
