My New Passion - Building a List

I've changed directions...

In my last post, I went into detail about why I am no longer pursuing SEO as a means of income. I struggled with it too long and had little success, so I decided to move to another avenue of internet marketing.

List building.

I tried building a list years ago before I even tried SEO. But I was pretty bad at it, and I wasn't willing to pay for traffic. So the going was slow. I think I earned on average $100 a month or so.

Why I am building a list...

But now I am back into list building. List building seems to be one of the most direct forms of internet marketing, and if you create the right kind of list, people tell me there is quite a bit of money in it.

Here are some reasons why I have decided to pursue list building:

1. You can earn recurring income
2. You are building a list that can't be taken away (assuming Aweber doesn't poop out on you).
3. You are able to market directly to your list without paying for it
4. You can promote affiliate products
5. You can promote your own products
6. You are not dependent on Google's latest update
7. You can provide good information and build trust
8. You don't have to write articles every day or create backlinks

These are just a few of the reasons I have chosen list building. But I guess that main reason is that I again have that fire in my gut that is needed to make money for yourself.

How I chose the subject to build my list around...

So I started considering what subject I wanted to build my list around. I came up with 3 main subjects that I have experience in and enjoy studying:

1. Internet marketing
2. Weight loss
3. Dog training

I chose to build my first list in the internet marketing niche. I chose this subject for 2 reasons.

1. I wanted to leverage what I was learning for my list. What I mean is that if I would have chosen weight loss, I would need to be doing research on weight loss, weight loss products, and keeping up with weight loss news. On top of that, I would have to be learning the ins-and-outs of list building.

My time would have been divided between the two.

But if I built a list on list building, then I could share as I learned along the way.

2. There are an inordinate number of people in the internet marketing realm. I won't have any problem at all finding products, people to work with, or people to advertise with.

Now, I assume that once I learn the basics and become profitable with my internet marketing list, then I could also build a list on any other subject I desired.

My thoughts on paid advertisting for my list...

I mentioned paid advertising earlier, and that to start with, I was not interested in paying for advertising. But since I now have some disposable income, I will be investing in paid advertising to build my list faster.

The primary method of advertising I am going to use is solo ads. Solo ads are emails about your product or service that you pay another list builder to send to their list. Solo ads basically promote your product to a group of people that have already shown interest in your subject.

I have purchased a few WSOs along these lines to learn more about them, and some of them have been extremely helpful.

In fact, yesterday I bought my first set of solo ads, and I will report the results in a day or two.
