Florida's Sinkhole Terror

Mark Mihal is lucky to be alive after his could have been near fatal death experience with one of Florida's sinkhole terrors. Mark says: "I feel lucky just to come out of it with a shoulder injury, falling that far and not knowing what I was going to hit," Hihal, is from St. Louis suburb area of Creve Coeur, said before heading off to learn whether he'll need surgery. "It was absolutely crazy."
While golfing with his buddies, Mihal was waiting to hit his third shot when he noticed a bathtub looking indentation about knee deep just behind him on the fairway.
Mihal decided to check out this odd impression and walked over to get a closer look and took one step right onto the sink hole not knowing that there was nothing underneath him.
"It didn't look unstable," he said. "And then I was gone. I was just freefalling. It felt like forever, but it was just a second or two, and I didn't know what I was going to hit. And all was darkness."

"I was looking around, clinging to the mud pile, trying to see if there was a way out," he said. "At that point, I started yelling, "I need a ladder and a rope, and you guys need to get me out of here."
His buddies got a ladder and one of his golf partners had to make his way into the hole to help Mihal out as with a broken shoulder he was unable to climb the ladder by himself.
"I felt fortunate I didn't break both legs, or worse," Mihal said.
While disturbing, such sink-holes aren't uncommon in other states like southwestern Illinois, where old underground mines frequently cause the earth to settle. Subsurface limestone that dissolves from acidic rainwater, snowmelt and CO2 causes the ground to collapse.

Court uphold OIR position on sinkhole coverage.

The Miami Herald stated that, a Florida court has upheld a decision by state insurance regulators that property insurers must offer sinkhole loss coverage in an amount equal to the dwelling coverage limit. To get the full story click her on Miami Herald.

Our condolences go out especially to the Bush family who lost their loved one Jeffrey Bush and any other families that may also have lost a loved one. We cannot even imagine the horror a victim would experience going through something as terrifying as this.
We can count our blessing and thank God that we ourselves have not had to experience such a thing.
