Outsourcing Writing Is a Nightmare

This is a rant.

I like to outsource but writers are a rule unto themselves. You ask them if they can do the job, they say sure no problem can do it in x days for y dollars. You pay. Then nothing. After a few weeks pass by you ask for an update. Stories of family sickness, family disasters etc follow.

I went through this last year with a well known warrior who gave me a refund after 9 months - I asked nicely 3 times before I got a stroppy, ill tempered email back and my cash ($997).

Well I didn't learn my lesson and trusted another warrior with $750 in July this year. Same scenario happened. Weeks of silence before I asked for an update. Sob story arrives by email.

I feel a heel for asking and decide that they are a poor unfortunate person and that I am far better off than them and back off for another month or so. Ask for another update. It will be done by Wednesday. Three Wednesdays come and go so another update is requested. On schedule to be completed on Tuesday. Two tuesdays come and go. Ask for another update. All be done next week.

Wait another month then ask for another update. Will be done next week. What started in July has now stretched to November. I am $750 out on a product I wanted to launch in September, then October, then November.... so I send an email and ask for a refund as another 3 weeks have passed and I am now thinking I will never get this project online and I want to end it. Several hours later I am sent a full refund which then costs me paypal fees to obtain! I lost on the deal but cannot be bothered to ask for something towards the paypal fees as I am just glad I got most of the $750 back without a fight. I am also out for the domain I bought and the graphics I had made for a project that will never see the light of day.

I am still feeling bad about this but I guess I will get over it, after all the writer in question has moved on. They have launched another WSO for more business. They have posted to the Warrior Forum outlining theire bad fortune over the last few months and how they will need to borrow cash this month to meet the outgoings and overdue bills. The Warriors as ever are being wonderful and are offering all kinds of help, they are offering projects to be done, advice on how to drum up business, the whole works.

I feel terrible about what I have done. Yet something inside me says I was right to do what I did, that I gave her every opportunity to do the right thing by me before I asked for a refund. The voice says I was let down but another voice inside me says that I let this writer down badly by asking for my money to be returned due to non performance. Another voice says that I should warn all of this people of my experience and another says that if I do that I will not be able to live with myself as I am a major cause of the downfall.

Internet marketing sucks.

    Jean,

You have done nothing to feel bad about.
All you did was right and propper.

    1. You went to the store.
    2. You paid for the goods.
    3. The goods weren't delivered so you asked for a refund.
    4. You waited patiently, but the refund didn't materialise.
    5. You applied pressure to recieve back what was yours initially.

In my opinion, you should be passing the details of this warrior onto Mary Murtha's name and shame wall.

This section of the forum is meant to be for posting about discussing "how to make money"

BUT,there is a need for others to see how easy it is to loose money also.

You have done nothing detremental to this person, they have brought their own downfall to themself, by their own actions.

    Here's the moneymaking bit folks.

Always research your outsourcer, ask for testimonials from existing clients, ask these people who have supplied testimonals what their true oppionion is.
Do a google search of the person, company, then repeat the same search with "person/company +complaints" see what that throws up.

Never ever pay in full. 50% max up front, and 50% when completed.

And as most here would recommend. "Only do business with those you know and trust".

Jean, never, ever feel sorry for someonelses inadequacies. You've worked hard for your money, why should they have it for free.

    My rant over.

    Janet

All excellent advice Janet, as I would expect from you The thing is I did research the outsourcer, she did have some good recommendations and they were all excellent.
Her problem was that she needed cash fast due to a bad situation, the situation was eating up her time and she needed to get new clients and new money to sustain the paying of bills etc. and had no compunction about not servicing clients she already had whilst almost certainly doing the work for the new guys.
I felt guilty because the post stated she need $1100 to meet the bills and my $750 would have gone a long way towards that amount but you are right, I shouldn't feel ashamed of myself it is this writer who should be feeling ashamed of herself...
