Copywriters need to be creative and conversational. They need to maintain a smooth flow of facts and information throughout the ad copy in a way that could easily be understood by the average reader.

On the other hand, there are times when you also need to sound smart. This is important if you want your readers to take you seriously. By writing smart, you will also be able to easily gain the respect and trust of your readers and potential buyers.

Writing smart is not easy, especially if you want to integrate it with humorous and conversational language. To help you, here are some easy tips to help you write smart in copywriting.

1. Do not TRY to sound smart

The first mistake everyone does when writing smart is trying to sound smart by using big highfaluting words. Most think that when they use such words, they seem knowledgeable and educated. In reality though, people laugh at them. Not only because they have no idea what the writer is talking about but also because of the awkward use of words. To write smart, do not try to sound smart.

2. Cut the chase and be specific

Another way to sound and write smart is to be specific, always be direct to the point. Avoid the use of too many adjectives and adverbs. These will only confuse your readers. So why don’t you give them a break and make the ad copy simple and easy to understand.

3. Write shortly

There’s a saying that those who say less are actually smarter than those who say more, or something like that. This also pertains to writing. Those who write shorter and more concisely are actually smarter than those who write a thousand words. Because smart people already know what they want to say and how they are going to say it. They don’t waste time for introductions and setting up the aura for whatever they are going to say. They do it directly and in a simple manner that everyone understands, even a 12-year old.

4. Do not repeat yourself

This is a common error among writers. Some even do this unknowingly. If you want to sound smart among your readers, you should definitely get rid of this bad habit. While it is easy to refrain from repeating what you have already said, it won’t hurt to do a brief proof of your written output to ensure you really did not repeat yourself.
