Facebook’s Latest Algorithm Change

Last week Facebook unveiled its latest algorithm change and of course a lot of questions came with it. How is this going to affect future posts? Is my impact going to be the same with my audience? Am I going to be able to get the same growth from Facebook? Here is the new change to Facebook’s algorithm.
Facebook’s update will limit visibility for automated posts in your News Feed. In the past people could share implicit posts through third party apps and they would automatically go on your wall. Facebook wanted to offer their users a much better experience so they have put a ranking system that handles the ordering of posts. The new algorithm still allows for posts via third party apps but puts priority on the manually shared posts. What does this mean? The priority of all the shared posts from users that just listened to a song through a music app will be lower than manually typed posts. All you small business owners using Facebook should be fine and this will actually be more beneficial for you. Facebook explained that users responded more to a post that were shared manually instead of implicitly and that is what forced to change. So now that Facebook is getting stricter on the type of posts we share what can we do to help our marketing strategy? As always quality content is key, anything visually appealing will help you get likes and possible shares so that you can take advantage of your many outlets. Getting customers to share photos or stories will be huge in marketing on Facebook. No more posts that just share links. If you share a link write something above like a heading to give it priority. Other ways of driving more attention to your page is to offer freebies or giveaways for your fans to get them more engaged to your page. But at the same time the new algorithm will pick up on repeated posts or even posts that are used to bait people. Understanding this new algorithm will give you a huge advantage in marketing on Facebook. So to review how to beat the new algorithm you need: quality content (more likes and shares the more visible the post will be to other news feeds), no automated shares (if you share a link, write something above it), and finally don’t repeat posts (even if it is good quality, eventually they will stop becoming visible).
