As a beginner starting an online business, article marketing is still one of the best content marketing solutions. However, gone are the days where you can get away with just slapping up a website with outdated, low-grade content. This is especially true in light of Google’s recent Panda updates.

To succeed in article marketing, you need to produce articles that not only provide useful, relevant information, but articles that convert into sales. The secret to getting exactly what you want is by writing amazing, exceptional articles.

Don’t have a clue on how to do that? Allow me to help you with the following tips:

Choose good topics – This is for your benefit. You want to choose topics that you have an interest or passion in. This makes building your niche site easier. If you build a site on the gestational habits of the amoeba and have absolutely no interest in science, how long do you think your site will last?

Although there is a lot of work to article marketing, it can be fun if you talk about things you like or are interested in. Building sites that you have no interest in makes it a chore and you will quickly lose interest. You don’t necessarily need to talk about rocket science or calculus to impress your audience and to convince them that you’re an intelligent person. In order to capture their attention, you need to also choose topics that they also find interesting.

Offer useful information – This is the classic mistake newbies make when getting started. They want to sign up for every affiliate program, slap the products on a site and sell, sell, sell. I have a news flash for you:

That’s NOT your job!

Selling is the company’s job. Your job as an affiliate is not to sell the shovels, but to teach people how to dig a better hole. Before you start tapping on your keyboard, commit yourself to not just educating your readers but also in helping them out.

Article marketing is about becoming an authority in a chosen niche. People get on Google to search for solutions to problem. Your job is to help them by writing articles that provide solutions to those problems. Doing so will not only help you convince these people that you’re knowledgeable but that you’ve got related experience as well.

Outline your thoughts and ideas – Ever get writer’s block? Don’t know what to write about next or find yourself having to constantly re-organize your ideas because your content doesn’t flow smoothly? Creating an outline can solve that dilemma. Write a list of topics you’re want to discuss then arrange them based on their importance. Creating an outline will also help you limit the scope of your content so you can save time and energy along the way.

KISS your articles – Keep your articles short and simple. Since you are not in college, there’s no need to write a thesis on a topic. We live in an age of instant gratification, in the right now generation. You only have about 3-5 seconds to grab a person’s attention so make it count. Get to the point. Making your articles like boring speeches or lengthy essays will not do your campaign any good and you will bore people away.

Write ORIGINAL content – Google and article directories are now using highly sophisticated anti- copying software and will penalize you severely for duplicate content so do yourself a favor and don’t even try to copy someone else’s articles or posts. Anyone that does is in this for the wrong reason anyway.

Talk to me baby - Whether you realize it or not, your written words have a voice that is identifiable to you. People can tell your articles by the way you write. The reason blogs are so popular is that they are more fun to read than a text book or an encyclopedia. Find your voice by learning to write as if you were talking in person to your readers. By using first person pronouns, inserting humor when appropriate, asking questions, and telling related stories or anecdotes, you can entertain your readers and put them at ease at the same time.

Use camouflage when selling – Although your main goal in writing and distributing articles is to sell your products and services, do not put sales pitches or even worse, blatant ads in the body of your article. A blog with more ads than posts is a dead giveaway as to your intentions people. The fact remains that readers get very defensive when they see that you’re trying to sell them something. Your readers are smarter than you give them credit for and can smell a sales rat a mile away. So make it your first priority to educate them first to earn their trust. Then you can sell them what you want. Just remember that it’s not gonna happen overnight.

By remembering these tips, you will produce articles that covert and therefore ensure your article marketing success.
