My Top 10 FREE Wordpress Plugins to Be Using In 2014
Here are ten great plugins that I like to use on my main blog The John Zapata Blog and other sites all the time!
And here they are in no particular order:
1. Updraft Plus
Needless to say if you’re sites are of any value to you and your business you might want to think about making your own backups of them on a regular basis. Truth it’s not safe to put all your trust in your hosting provider and all it takes is one slip of the mouse or hitting the wrong key that you can accidentally delete your whole site or lose some valuable content. Not to mention the risk of your site being defaced by some bored 13 year old hacker across the world trying to build his reputation by jacking up your sites! Well this one is pretty awesome, easy to setup and make backups with a couple mouse clicks. You can backup straight to a Dropbox account to make backing up and restoring a piece of cake!

2. InfiniteWP Client
I think you’re really going to like this one! Simply put, it’s a crazy easy way to manage all of your WP sites with one login. Not only that, it gives the ability to manage all your plugins and themes from one central location; one click updates and another easy way to quickly backup and restore your sites. It really is a time saver so you’re going to wanna check it out!

3. WordPress SEO by Yoast
Here’s a cool alternative for “All-in-one SEO” which "WordPress SEO by Yoast" and it’s pretty popular. It can quickly tell you how well your pages and posts are optimized and aids you in focusing on the right keywords. One thing I love is the preview it shows you of how you’re posts and pages will show up in the search engines so you can make sure you’ve got the most click enticing stuff in there! There’s a ton of other cool stuff it does too so if you want to get a less resource intensive alternative to “All-in-one SEO” than this might be your answer!

4. Wordfence Security
If you’re anything like me you want to know when anyone is trying to mess with your stuff especially my business! Well with a quick upload and a couple of clicks you can have your valuable money making sites securely protected from outside threats like the bored 13 year old hackers, so you don’t have to worry. It’s simple but has a lot of cool options like being able to block traffic from an entire country if you want to! It can help fix sites that have already been compromised too but don’t wait till that happens when you can stop the attack in the first place!

5. Faster Image Insert
I don’t know about you but one thing that drives me crazy is uploading image after image and fiddling with them trying to get them to look right on your sites. Well this cool plugin is a real time saver that will let you mass upload and mass edit image attributes so you can waste less time on those and work on the important stuff like making money!

6. Announcer
This plugin gives a pretty awesome way to quickly configure announcements on your pages or posts that are sure to be seen by your visitors and grab their attention! It’s similar to the notification bar concept that premium plugins like WP Notify Pro use but in a very simplistic format that works great for the price of free! So if you need to get your visitors attention and bring in some clicks than this might be exactly what you need.

7. Theme-Check
This is a great tool for anyone who uses Wordpress and for theme developers as well because you can make sure your themes are meeting all the latest Wordpress standards and practices. With quick automated testing tools you can run the same checks that Wordpress.org is using for submitted themes! Not bad right? Give it a shot and see if your theme is up to par!

8. TinyMCE Advanced
Now I’ll admit, the standard WP text editor drives me insane! It’s very limited and it rarely does what I want it to. Well this will give you some nice great features added in to finally be able get your posts or pages to look like you want with much less hassle. The most basic things you’ll be excited to have is the huge increase in font selections and sizes. However, you can just scroll through all the stuff it has and add and remove the buttons that will appear in your editor with ease. If you’re still using the basic WP text editor you gotta check this out you’re going to love it!

9. Black Studio TinyMCE Widget
This one is pretty much the same thing as “TinyMCE Advanced” but it’s for your widget section! So with this plugin you can finally hook up the widget area like you’ve always wanted to without having to copy HTML back and forth from the regular WP editor and all that mess we used to have to deal with in order to get the stuff in your widgets to look like it wasn’t created by a first grader! Try it out.

10. Post Teaser
Now I like this little plugin right here. The reason is because it shortens your blog content so your visitors can get a nice taste of what it is and decide if they want to read more or not. What’s cool though, is it gives the word count of each post, the image count and the estimated time for reading it. However, the best part is that it allows more of your posts to be seen on the page and above the fold to capture your reader’s attention. They don’t have to scroll down or click arrows to see more pages, which most visitors won’t even bother to do. The more they see right away, the more likely they will stick around and read more! And the longer your visitors stay the better your page rankings will be too, so check it out.
