I use Craigslist a lot when I do a retail store closing sale. It is a great way to promote the sale when the sale prices are 50% off or more and especially for selling fixtures and bulk products. These same methods would work with a retail store doing a sale.

For selling products, I generally use under For Sale:
General Category , Garage Sale for Saturday events and a specific category depending on the merchandise being sold. I take pictures of entire departments for customers to see the mix. I will use the business category for bulk sales and for fixtures.

When I see fixtures, I create ads for specific fixtures plus have one for all of them together. Pictures are huge in selling fixtures. Sometimes, I will list some fixtures under Small Biz Ads. One last thing is on Fridays or Saturdays will list fixture ads in nearby cities. This has produced great results in getting people to the sale.

Craigslist Marketing is free and is invaluable in doing a store closing sale.
