How to NOT blog
Posted 9th January 2009 at 11:32 AM by Ldimilo
This is more of a rant but something that I find really prevalent, particularly in the make money niche. It seems like there are more experts in this field that anywhere else...and all of them are just dying to teach you something new.
This author implores all marketers and bloggers to....
STOP the Madness....Pu-leaze
The problem is that most of the make money blogs I encounter are newbie/expert teaching newbie. And what that makes for is hundreds of blogs that basically sound the same.
It is like attack of the clones...literally
Another common theme I see here as well as on these marketing and make money blogs is you need to create unique content.....
ummm...okay....ironically, the same blogs have the same content that other blogs have; rehashed how to get traffic posts that are already on dozens of blogs; the top 10 lists that are carbon copies of other posts out there; the how to make money blogging posts that make the web a bit redundant.
I know that this is really no one's fault. After all, the common preconception of most bloggers is that you need to post at least once a day to keep your fans happy. I thought that this was the key as well a couple years ago. Then I wised up.
Listen, obviously this is just one writer's opinion but unless you are putting in the time to rank for your post on "how to {fill-in-the-blank}..." that has been written all over the internet umpteen times, and unless you truly have something unique to add to something that is already out there, your time would be better served building links for pages that actually mean something...that are uniquely you.
A couple weeks ago, I wound up on some guys website that fit this profile. In a moment of complete delusion, I decided to join his list. I think it was more a curiosity that anything else. The guy was obviously a newbie marketer but I always like to see what other people are doing.
What I got was the usual internet marketing garbage that you start to see if you have been in the biz long enough. The how can I help you help yourself? messages and the here is a free gift for you friend stuff.
Maybe I am cranky. Maybe I am a bit jaded. But I don't know how things like that actually make a connection between the list and the list maker. Maybe I am wrong about this. Maybe I should take some time off and take a long break to get myself less critical...I don't know.
But what I do know is this...
If YOU as a blogger or marketer are not making any effort to try to separate yourself from the pack; If YOU as a blogger or marketer haven't quite figured out YOUR Unique Selling Point; If YOU as a blogger or marketer are doing and saying the same things that everyone else is...then chances are you won't make as big of a splash (if you make a splash at all) as the blogger and marketers who already have the 'same old, same old' sewed up.
