This morning when I opened my email, I discovered that 118 were in my spam folder. What exactly is spam? Spam are emails that you’re not expecting, and are generally sent to a group or mailing list to promote a product or service. Installing a spam blocker can control these bandwith-eating, time-wasting messages, but since the internet is public, some will still make it through anyway.

Let me give you some examples of spam that are currently in my spam folder. I can win a new Kia Sorrento plus a 10,000 gas card, and all I have to do is take a short survey. If I want to experience the thrills of high speed internet, I can click and take advantage of several different offers. Everybody needs a life insurance policy, and at Globe Life, I would only pay $1. Of course, when you read the fine print, that $1 covers the first month of a child’s coverage. I would definitely delete emails of this nature.

However, what if you can use some of these emails to create a good income for your business? If you’re writing articles or blog posts for your business, you need a headline that is going to draw in potential customers. Let me give another example from my spam folder. Here’s a good one. “Create a Lifetime Income Without Door to Door Selling.” Start out by emphasizing the pitfalls of selling door to door. These pitfalls include having the door slammed in your face, the family dog chasing you across the yard, and safety concerns about knocking on a stranger’s door. Next, start detailing the benefits of your business, and how it can generate a lifetime of income.

This next example is one that generates a lot of interest from readers. “Free Gift, This Weekend Only.” Who doesn’t want a FREE gift? By stating that the gift is only available this weekend, readers know that there is a time limit, and immediate action is necessary. This is a perfect opportunity to sign people for your list, and along with the free gift, you’re also providing information about the positive aspects of your business.

Keep a separate file for useful junk mail, and you’ll always have some killer headlines that you can use for your articles or blog. Let’s face it, if you don’t have a headline that attracts interest, you’re missing vital opportunities to convert readers to customers.
