Email marketing and list building can be a great way to draw repeat visitors and business to your website if done correctly. However, this once very profitable avenue now faces new challenges. Among these challenges are getting people to confirm their opt in to an autoresponder series of a newsletter. Typically, seventy percent or less of individuals who subscribe to an autoresponder series or newsletter will confirm their subscription giving an internet marketer permission to contact them in the future. Traditional ways of getting subscriber to double opt include the following ways.

The Instant Download. The instant download is very similar to a single-opt-in setup and here's how it works. A prospect visits a website and notices an opt-in offer for a free report on a subject that they are interested in. The prospect then proceeds to enter their email address in exchange for a link to the download that they will find in one of two places. They will find it on a "Thank You" page that they will be redirected to after entering their address or a link to the item of interest will be sent immediately to that address after submission. In either case, the prospect is not required to confirm their subscription to the autoresponder series or newsletter to obtain the free information they seek. This method leads to a list that has a high rate of non-confirming subscribers.

The second method is the double opt-in method in which the potential subscriber must double opt-in to receive the information they seek. This methodology is as follows. The prospect enters their name and email address or just their email address. Instead of giving them a link to the information they seek on a "Thank You" page or in the initial email that they are sent, the prospect is required to confirm their email address and confirm the giving of their permission to re-contact them to the list owner. This methodology leads to a more stable list, but still falls short of tempting the potential subscribers to confirm their opt-in. So, how can this problem be remedied?
