How to promote your business on twitter

If you have been in a cave for the past 14 months or in a monastery with no access to TV, radio, newspaper, or Internet then you might not have heard of it. But for everyone else I am pretty sure that you have heard of twitter even if you do not use the service. Now you may have heard of twitter but as a business owner you might be wondering ,"what can it do for me". Hundreds maybe even thousands of businesses everyday are using twitter to enhance several different parts of their business operations. From the businesses online image, to helping with announcements and customer service, no matter what your size is, twitter can help you expand your business and make the customers that you already have even more loyal.

When you first log on to twitter and use the service for a day or two, the very first thing that is going to be in your head is "I don't get it". Most people don't when they first get on. That is because when you first get onto twitter you are on there by yourself. You have to start following people and build a group of followers for yourself for twitter to be effective. Now you do not want to follow just anybody. You want to follow people that might be interested in your service or at least in the same field that your business is in. You can use services such wefollow.com to find out what interest people have that you might be able to follow. After that you will want to have your business naturally join in the conversation. This is not a must but it does help. There are services out there that will allow you see anytime somebody tweets a keyword that is about your business or a niche that your company does business in. Use these services to send people a gentle tweet that you may be able to help them. Do not spam these people. Make sure that your message has something that pertains to what they are talking about. The worse thing that you can do on twitter is spam people. This will lead to massive unfollowing and eventually getting kicked off of the service.

Twitter is great for finding new customers but the most powerful ability that Twitter has is to keep the customers that you already have well informed on what is going on with your company. If you a have big sale coming up or if you have a new widget coming in to the store, the people that follow you will be all ears and glad that they received such an early notice. Twitter will create such a brand loyalty to your store that you will always be the first choice when it comes time to make a purchase. This is the true strength of Twitter. The ability to reinforce your brand.

There are many ways that a business can take advantage of Twitter, the main thing is that you get on a start to find out for yourself. Maybe it isn't for you or your business but chances are it will be and you will be glad you did.
