What do you want?

At one time I was looking at joining a monastery (Catholic) and when I first arrived the priest in charge asked me, "what do you want?"
I said I wanted to become a monk and join a monastery.
He said, "no"... "what do you want?"
So I repeated that I wanted to be a Monk.
He said that's not what I really want.
I said "yes, that's what I want... I really want to be a Monk"
"Wrong that's not what you really want", he said.
Then he asked me again, "what do you want?"
I thought a little deeper this time.
After a few minutes I finally said, "I want what I want".
He looked at me and said nothing.
That's what everyone wants- they "want what they want" and they will do whatever they can - legally and illegally- to get it.
98% of the population use legal means and those are our customers, 2% don't and most are in jail.
The take-away for marketers is this: Sell ONLY what people want. They will do whatever it takes - run up credit cards, borrow, etc - to buy it.
So find out what is selling and sell it too. Don't worry about competition - if it's selling like hotcakes it's becuase a lot of people want it.
That's how big money is made.
