Lots of tweaks, very little conversion
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi friends,

I'm working on getting enough leads to feed to my team, and have finally succeeded in getting a consistent trickle of Twitter traffic (averaging 150 uniques per day) but the conversion is almost non-existent.

The Tweet basically says that there's a free book, "The Ultimate Manual" on working from home. So I'm assuming that when people come to this page they expect to be able to get a copy and that's why they've come.

I've tried long copy, shorter copy, download form only, and nothing seems to make a difference. When I left off the opt in box altogether, the conversion approached 10%, but that's not much use in terms of creating a list.

I added a timer to try to get a sense of urgency. Nil opt ins out of 200 uniques.

So now I've added a couple of short paras and still no opt ins.

Would appreciate honest opinions, blunt or otherwise, just grateful for any feedback.

So you are saying that simply offering the Download you only got 10% conversion?

As an experiment...I over the last 2 hours ( An keep in mind it is early Sunday morning for me ) had a AD link on Facebook that said "Get your FREE Working from Home Guide Here" and then on the lander had an image of my book and a headline that said "Click the link below for your free download" and then there was a link.

2 hours, 37 clicks, and 35 downloads.

Something is not right here. Do you use Google Analytics or the like? are these people filtering off to the other pages on your site? ( I would remove all links myself - my test lander, was just a lander no other links )

Not so sure I would mention "Network Marketing" or "Opportunity Meetings" If the book explains how to get 80% of people to say yes with a simple presentation... why are you not using those tactics? Why not a video of your presentation and an optin for the book?

To give you an idea ( And I am in no way asking you sign up for my offer.) but my lander in my Sig with the right traffic behind it converts 30%+

Thanks Savidge4, I see what you mean. It jumps out straight away, and your follow up sequence is really nice also.

I'll rework what I have to take out all the navigation and the header, and simplify it.

I noticed in a lot of the training people were saying use bullet points. But as I compare with and without I think it's better without as long as there's a strong enough headline, which you clearly have.

In response to your point about mentioning network marketing, I was wanting to make it clear that this is what my book is about, but in retrospect I can see it would turn off people who'd seen MLM executed badly.

I'll come back in a few days with (hopefully) better stats to share.

I wonder how many followers you got? And how did you earned it?
I got 500 followers on Twitter and don't know how can I make engagement and conversion from it.

Hi Suthers,

I've never used Twitter for lead generation but I know of others that have and never got any good results.

What other lead traffic generation strategies are you using?

I'd recommend going somewhere else for free, targeted traffic. Youtube works very well for me.

My opinion?

for starters, a new logo.
and a better book cover.
maybe add a youtube "sales video" explaining things a bit more.

work from home doing what? .. be more specific, your net is too big to catch any "fish"

Think of yourself browsing the internet, what's going to catch your interest and keep it? what's going to get you to take action? if you make something YOU'D even take action on, then you at least you're on the right track.

Suthers, my opinion would be as follows :

1) There is no authority over your website, People need a reason to believe you, what case studies, example, screen shot or anything is displayed on your landing page to make people believe, that they will be able to make money, somehow, somewhere through signing up?

2) What kind of traffic you are receiving? I will question on is it targeted well or something? because, another reason could be that if you are getting un-targeted traffic, chances are you will be receiving a lot less opt in's, and even if they signup, they are less likely to convert, i know free opt-in's are a good way to build list, but focus on acquiring target customers who can eventually turn into potential consumers.

3) The timer do create urgency, but this un-professional website, with no logo, no authority, poor placement of timing button, won't work also combine the timing with a wording like, If you dont signup in the next [TIMER here], you are going to miss the world's biggest opportunity' something like this will work.

Hope you find the above useful,

Regards

Twitter traffic is not very good for IM niche compared to non-IM. Have you tried promoting non-IM products?

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I completely changed the page in line with Savidge4 plus put a timer on the page. The link to the page basically tells people they can download a free book and gives the name.

However here is the problem. I dug deep into IPs of "recent visitors" via the cpanel and discovered that almost every single visitor from Twitter was a blacklisted or suspicious IP. In the last 3 weeks that I'm supposed to have had 150 visitors per day, almost 100% of those are basically bots.

I installed a Google analytics plugin which confirms my worst fears. I'm getting a good conversion rate, probably around 45% on genuine visitors, but there are almost no genuine visitors.

The Twitter strategy I used came from Gary Taaffe, a successful author who uses Twitter almost exclusively. I'm guessing things have changed big time since he put out his "Stampede" strategy.

So I've pulled the plug on Twitter and will seek out another traffic source to focus on, probably YouTube, and test that one next.

Will be back to report.

I would place the timer on the bottom vs the top.. but looks much better - good job!

I would say that the traffic quality is probably the culprit. But your countdown timer is also broken which is probably hurting your conversions.

Also, consider giving away your very best tip before asking someone to give you their email address.

Eben Pagan taught this opt-in technique years ago based on his work in the dating niche. Here's how it works ... you give away an incredible piece of insight that the user finds invaluable and it causes them to think "If he is giving this away on the opt-in page, the eBook must be incredible!" Give them something great on the optin page so it's not a completely blind optin.

This technique improves trust and also triggers a sense of reciprocity like Cialdini wrote about in Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.

Here is my opinion. The free book is a great thing.

Have you tried any 2 step conversion strategies. As of 2015, the 2 step strategies are doing great. But remember that, the twitter traffic shoulld be some real targeted ones. Don't build an audience for one time.

Try dynamic conversion retargeting. Add a PLR or MRR book or anything of that sort related to the niche and make them as bonuses.

Cheers,
Ron
