As my next project I was going to try to see if I can make a one-page site convert. Basically it would be a landing/squeeze page giving away something for free and a suggest to check out product X, which would be an affiliate product, on the thank you page.

The other idea is to try to sell them on the product on the actual page, but that is mostly for a ppc campaign.

However I have never tried either method before. Any advice will be helpful.

My other question is about link cloaking. Is link stealing very rare so I should not worry about it, or is it something I should guard against? If so what is the best method.
