How to use urgency for eBook conversions?
Share on:

As we all know, urgency is a powerful tool to get customers to act. However, fake urgency can often be easily spotted and turn off customers. I may be wrong on this, but every time I see a countdown timer when I'm shopping myself I roll my eyes. Also, when sales expire the exact date I happen to be on the website, I know it's fake, but maybe that's just me.

I know some good ways to use real urgency, but none of them apply to my eBook:

- Offer free shipping that actually expires (I don't have to ship)
- Limited supply (my eBook supply is infinite)
- Have a sale that does expire (but that kinda messes with my normal pricing)
- Offer buy one get one free (I only sell one item)

The only thing I've come up with is to offer free bonuses that expire or discounts on upsells, but I don't have either of those at the moment and will be considering adding them.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to create urgency for an eBook?

Thanks

You might not like the count down clocks but they work
We have managed to boost sales by 70% just by adding the clock. So think about it

I'm not really directly answering your question but I'd like to take Mindvalley as an example of a successful "urgency strategy" when it comes to their products.

They do a pretty good job of putting a "need" when it comes to their books (limited copies) plus the "takes some time to print copies of these book" again. But one factor of this sense of urgency is building trust with your audiences. They need to "feel" that your products are indeed top of the line and used by a lot of people so that they too can jump in the bandwagon, so to speak.

The ultimate site for your camping, survival, outdoor, adventure and travel needs.

Hello JoshTheDoctor,

I do not create many ebooks, however, I do create software, which has the same principles as ebooks in that they're both digitally available so stock is not an issue, HOWEVER, even though you have an unlimited supply, you could easily do an increasing pricing range to create that sense of urgency...

First 10 copies, $7
Second 10 copies, $12
Third 10 copies, $17

Or simply put, a dimesale of sorts...

I am sure you get the point. I do this with many of my software releases and it does create a sense of urgency because no one in there right mind wants to spend more than they have to.

OF COURSE, urgency will only work when you have something the customer wants, so, you need to have targeted visitors. You'll also need a history that proves your products are worth purchasing.

Having 1,000's of un-targeted visitors who have never heard of you or your product will prove nothing more than a waste of your time and theirs...

You can try something like a Limited-time offer, where you offer something for a limited time only, the clock down also works, but you need to be trustworthy so that customers know that you are not trying to rip them off

creating urgency in my definition is nothing to do with the timing (even this tactic get great results), the urgency of your ebook take place when you create a valuable content, you will be appreciated by your audience, and your book will be out of the roof very soon!
