  • Engagement will get you clicks anyway, so that's where your focus should be IMO.

    Be yourself.

What happened today? Is there a lesson there?

If you can hold a conversation with the guy or gal at the checkout counter at your local store, you can write emails that engage people.

Try Daniel Levis, Ben Settle, Jon McCulloch, Terry Dean.

    Best of luck.

      Spot on.

There are also a few good Courses that help you develop this. I always liked Matt Bacak's "17 email Hacks " and "Email Boosters" ( the bonus part of the course)

Gives you great techniques to utilize.

That being said only YOU will ultimately be your OWN voice to your Audience.

And you have to look inward to develop this

Many times I will talk out loud when writing my emails and envision a best friend in the room I am conversing with to help me with my "voice"

The best way to learn is to subscribe to the lists of a bunch of great email marketers.

Pay attention to what they do. Pick everything apart.

How do they write their emails? What do they do to sell the click?

Then create a folder on your computer (people call it a "swipe file") and everytime you read a great email --> copy and paste it into a word document, save it, and add it to your swipe file folder.

This is one of the best pieces of advice there is. I actually use Dragon Naturally Speaking when writing blog posts or emails. It is amazing how naturally your content comes out when spoken.

Here's a formula - give, give sell, give, give sell.

However, you have to turn these people onto you. Of course attention grabbing headlines will work to a point, but your real goal should be to create 'RAVING FANS" that want to open your emails because they come from you.

This takes time. Be everywhere. Share your life story, share yourself with your readers while you give them advice. Don't come across like you're a newbie - write with confidence. Be human - with triumphs and set-backs. Once people identify with you, they will open your emails just to read what you have written.

Of course, once this happens, you must craft your selling emails in a way that gets the sale. That is more about copywriting - entire courses have been written on this - or check out the section of the forum on this.

A great course on creating attractive emails is Email Alchemy by Terry Dean. Terry is considered by some to be the "godfather" of internet marketing,I highly recommend all of his courses. Another great course on email marketing is AutoResponder Madness.

One thing to keep in mind when you subscribe to an email list to study a marketer...some of those guys send you different emails based on your behavior (at least they claim to in their training)...so if you click a link or open an email you might get a different email than those who don't do the same things....

Most of the Warriors have some very good advice here.

I would add two more things:

    1) Be yourself. How would you engage with the person in the street, in the bar/pub, in a friendly way. We know you are out to sell but come across as I'm helping you, helping you, and there is this cool product/service/course I would recommend you go for. It's about winning their trust.

    2) If you are stuck on what to write, one thing I do is subscribe to email lists where I believe they have got their marketing and list building right and study that as a baseline for me to work from. The danger is because it is so good you get dragged into the engagement and end up investing your money there. Stay disciplined. You are only there to learn from their copywriting of emails. You can create a good swipe file to work from.

    Thanks

    SIMPLE SOLUTION:

Give your readers what they need or want to make their lives better.

And the first step toward accomplishing that is making sure they actually care what YOU have to say in the first place.

Everything else is secondary. You can be the "worst email writer" on the planet, but if the above properties are in place, you'll get clicks, and you can optimize from there.

I'm surprised no to see any reference to the incredibly valuable posts of ex-member Alexa Smith. I've learned so much from her that I could safely say that she was my mentor.

Anyway, do a Google search for "site:warriorforum.com Alexa Smith <keyword>", where keyword can be "autoresponder", "email writing", "how to write an email", etc.

I love Alexa's comments! I haven't been on here for a while, what happened to her?

To the OP, I recommend Michael Cheney's The Commission Machine. I love his emails.
