What can I write about?

Hey everyone,

So I kind of hit my goal of building a small email list by the end of December, although now I am feeling a bit lost as to what to write to them.

I understand you're supposed to keep adding value, but im at a loss for content to write. (which is a problem for me across the board)

Am I making this too complicated?

Although to change gears a bit, one angle I thought of was to be the "value add guy", meaning, I'm the guy that constantly adds value and shows the results of what happens to my followers and list.

Any thoughts would be helpful

What did you promise your subscribers in return for their email address?

Yes. You have a subject - a 'niche' - that IS your online business - that's what you write about - and things related to it - and products related to it....problems/tips etc

Although to change gears a bit, one angle I thought of was to be the "value add guy", meaning, I'm the guy that constantly adds value and shows the results of what happens to my followers and list.

It is not about YOU - it is about THEM. All your list cares about is what you have to offer them...the statement above does not make sense. Start ADDING the value instead of focusing on 'results'.

Stop looking for 'angles' and focus on your product/service/site - whatever it is you are trying to sell online.

You need to go back and read the answers to your previous thread about 'how to write a funnel' - you did not participate in your own thread but you have some valuable advice there. That was a couple months ago but reading through it will be helpful now that you are ready to write.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.

    Hey,

Yeah so I just shared the most valuable thing I can think of which was how to take a break and why you should from working (it's a philosophy from the book "the power of full engagement) and I got a lead!

She wants more work done from my little content biz, and probably some type of guidance for how to start creating content

So now it's time to work on mastering closing skills!

The money is in the list, follow up, follow up, follow up

If you haven't even really started yet and you already don't know what to write, you may want to reevaluate your plans.

If you don't have 50 ideas right now as to what you can share, you may be in the wrong niche. If so, that's going to show, and your list building efforts may be in vain.

And you mentioned the lady wanting help knowing what content to write. But you are here asking what to write. If you don't know what to write yourself, how can you guide anyone else?

I'm not slamming you. Maybe you got caught up in some guru's enthusiasm without thinking things through. Been there, done that. So, I learned the hard way.

Or maybe my perceptions of what you are trying to do are way off base.

You have great points, I guess i like to *think* im really good at marketing, like i understand the basics. I *think* I have the knowledge to succeed, just need to put it into practice

I think im just finding my voice after have been muted for so many years, maybe helping people with their content marketing isn't exactly my forte, but eventually i'll find what my exact skills are and how to monetize them, for now i just need to keep focusing on building my list and adding massive value to them

But I wanted to create something where I just share whatever i'm working on, like whenever I feel inspired, my definition of success is just learning, creating, and sharing, like a lifestyle business type thing

I would ask for your thoughts on this but I dont want to get creamed

You want the 'perfect job' - doing what you want when you feel like it, pursuing your own interests......and get paid for it. Me, too.

I guess i like to *think* im really good at marketing, like i understand the basics. I *think* I have the knowledge to succeed, just need to put it into practice
If you buy a guitar - and you go through some 'how to play' books and learn the cords and how to read the music......but you never try to play that guitar.....are you qualified to join a band?

You think you are good - you think you have the knowledge to succeed - time to prove it by actually USING the knowledge you've acquired.

I will help you cheat. Oh?

First visit these sites, then dive into Google. NO affiliation to sites linked, educational only.

    https://nationaldaycalendar.com/what-day-is-it/

Today is National Cheese Lover's Day as well as hugging, disc jockey and PENGUIN day.

    Then look at: https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history

    This day in history.

And as you go along, you will find all kinds of facts and things to write about, take GOOGLE (please)...everyday they link to a person or historical event. .Today they are cheering about being able to get vaccinated with animation characters.

This day made Reagan a hero and Carter a dejected one term president.

Now you take the event or history, wrap a story around it and make it relevant to your audience. Of course, if you have nothing to say, then this probably becomes an oft visited site which makes you zero DOLLARS, which is, I presume your reason.

So as you search after your voice, make yourself a grilled cheese sandwich, plan your charcuterie board for the future, start your cottage industry and hope it doesn't have a limburger smell to it that drives people away.

And subscribe to similar newsletters and get on lists to see how this is used too.

Everything depends on what do you want to get from your clients, or what do you want them to understand about you and your company. In my opinion, all marketers or copywriters face the issues when they have no idea what to write about. I believe that we have to find the inspiration either from one else, or from various sources, like the internet. If you have no idea, then you have to determine the direction of your activity an understand what do you like. When you finally come to the conclusion what do you like a lot, you will be able to search for something that will be the new source of ideas for you.

For us to be able to provide you a more precise answer to this, you would first need to tell us briefly what was the content of your previous messages and how you approached to leads and if you divided your emails into some sequences. It's good that you tend to always bring some additional value to your emails, but that can really be achieved on many different ways. You can offer them some case studies, dig deeper about something specifically that you think might caught their attention, you can relate somehow your offer with something that is trending now, and so on. I know this process require some originality and creativity, but there is always something to write about.

  • One thing I do to look for topics to write about is to think of big topics first. Ideas or solutions that would require me to write an entire book to explain it in detail. I come up with different chapters for that book. Then each chapter would have subchapters and outlines.

So now, I have a series of topics. Each subchapter would be a newsletter and will be related to the previous and future emails.
