The world of buying and flipping Domains!

Hi, I'm new to this domain world. Initially looking into it, it seems like something you could make a lot of money if you were involved 10 or so years back, but it's pretty hard now.

From searching, it appears that all the half decent .com's have been taken. I wanted to ask if approaching domain owners through finding their emails on whois and seeing if they want to sell it ever really works?

I've approached a few people but they are asking for crazy money. Much more than it is ever worth. It seems they are happy to sit on it until someone pays whatever stupid money they want. I guess it's finding people who don't know the worth of domain names, 3/4 letter etc, and seeing if they will sell.

This seems quite unlikely but maybe not impossible. Has anyone had any luck with it or have suggestions of ways to get hold of decent urls? Do people still find unsold domains and buy them for the registration fee and make decent profit from selling on?

It seems like everyone interested in domains looks at domain auctions, so appears pretty hard to find anything at a decent price there too.

Not sure best way to go about getting hold of good ones!
Like I said, I'm just looking into this world, so no expert at all. Any help/thoughts would be great.

Thanks.

I agree the .com space is saturated. But, there are always new trends and ideas coming out. So one idea is to focus on new trends, and imagine domains suited for these new trends.

Also, the .com will become less important as the public gets more familiar with all the new extentions (tlds) which have recently come out. Just the other day, I picked up a .website url which I really like, and the .com .net etc variations had all be taken years ago, but the .website version I got may be worth a lot as a domain flipping strategy, and I plan on trying to do just that.

There are many, many great dot com names still available for registration in every niche. Don't be fooled by the "saturation" argument.

But I suggest if you want to make money in flipping domains, you need to focus on the selling side of the equation . . . that's where the money is made. It's easy enough to find the great names.

The key is to identify and approach people that will have an interest in the name you offer them. They must see value in it - and it is mostly up to you to point that value out to them.

Approach domain flipping like any other type of online selling. Find demand, target your audience, get in front of them with a very valuable offer, then push for the sale.

        Cheers!

If you approached a particular company that the domain you had related to - would they want to see proven stas/hits/google search rank for it, or do you think they could just buy the name alone if they liked it?

    I have a site called Findlowcostflights.com

If I Park it with Sedo or something, do you think that will earn me any money/hits? I hear that Google doesn't rank Parked sites. So would it be better for me to create an index page with Meta Tags and content/links related to those searches to help get it up the rankings? I guess I could try and monetize the links somehow.

Then once, if, I get a few hits - sell it then? Or should I just approach potential buyers off the bat?
Be good to get a couple of thoughts on this if poss?

    Thanks.

Not if you're trying to sell the domain.

The domaining business has nothing to do with stats/hits/google search. Those things are all about websites.

These are two totally different business models.

I think you should start by learning something about the domaining business. Get yourself on Gene Pimentel's list, for a start.

And stop thinking about "Google"!! If you manage to sell the domain-name for more than reg-fee, it will be nothing to do with Google at all.

You should try offering your own price. Probably they will lower down to that price. I bought 100s of domain and never sold a single one.

Yes indeed and for me it was around 2009-2012 is golden time where I made some decent money. Now a days I find cheap deals to buy domains and sell it after developing it. Sometime you can get good domains from less popular markets.

You can try other extentions as well and make your website profitable if you want to sell in good price.
