Hi guys

I don't know if I should focus my time on PPC or SEO?

What do you suggest?
#ppc #seo

IF you plan on doing both , I'd start with seo, then eventually move to ppc. This should help you pick your keywords and discover your demographics before putting too much money into it.

Actually, the opposite is true. And for those who say that if you have a limited budget, you should do SEO first, that is also wrong. With a limited budget it is even more important to do PPC first.

Before you waste month trying to rank for some keywords, do you not want to know if those keywords actually convert into money? Nothing worse than spending a few months to dominate the SERPs only to find that the traffic volume is not what you thought it was (Google Keyword Planner lies sometimes) and/or that the traffic does not convert into sales or leads like you thought it would.

I would much rather throw some money at a PPC campaign to get those answers more or less instantly before wasting my time.

You will also find which keywords convert the best. It is not always the most searched terms that convert well.

As for finding keywords, there is no better keyword research tool than a PPC campaign. Throw some broad and phrase match keywords in there, and you will find keywords that you never considered and that no keyword tool would have ever suggested.

Do you have money to invest in split testing your PPC campaigns? If not, PPC would be a bad idea and possibly a giant money drain. If you DO have money to invest, properly split-tested PPC campaigns can be hugely lucrative.

Do both that is what I tell my SEO clients. SEO done well is a long term proposition.

So if you don't have any traffic to start with PPC is an easy and affordable to get going.

When you get involved n PPC, you typically run multiple campaigns, targeting different keyword sets, different demographics, etc. You eventually keep the ones that work and toss the ones that don't. Unfortunately, this costs money that many folks don't have or don't want to spend.

You could probably do some decent testing with that budget.

SEO is for long term success whereas dealing with PPC can get you in a lot of trouble if you invest in the wrong keywords and do not have a compelling landing page.

It depends. Are you doing your own SEO? Are you hiring someone to do your SEO? Are you able to run your own PPC campaigns? Questions like that matter for a few reasons.

If you're investing in SEO, it's a long term marketing solution. Would you pay for SEO for keywords that don't convert to sign ups and sales? I wouldn't want to.

I run a smaller PPC campaign to track which keywords are profitable, and convert to sales, then target my SEO towards those keywords. If PPC is profitable, you can scale it up while thinking long-term on SEO.

PPC is necessary for getting traffic to your site immediately, and can be turned on/off depending on your budget. SEO is a long-term strategy and investment for your website. Because SEO results (organic ranking) takes so much time, you need to start that as soon as you can afford it.

I'd actually take the results you experience with PPC (which keywords converted visitors into a lead/sale) and apply that to SEO tactics; that is, which keywords to focus SEO efforts on, not the other way around as another member had mentioned.

Organic is good for eating but it will take forever to get ranked.
Go with PPC to get off the ground....and work on SEO at the same time.
Use Google Keyword Planner to figure out which keywords you want to target.
    Start where you stand.

SEO can take you months to get some results. There is no guarantee that you will ever get any traffic from there.

I would go with PPC cause it gets you FAST results and sometimes, the same day.

If you are just starting out, I would use the money towards adding content as you probably won't have very good results using PPC without it. Once you start building up your rankings and getting subscribers is when you should look into getting paid traffic with Google, Facebook or Bing

Do you have a budget for PPC?

This question isn't valid if you have a marketing budget.
We are talking about 2 different approaches.

SEO gives you long-term benefits, while PPC gives you immediate results if you have a proper & optimized sales funnel in place.

    Just my 2 cents.

Pay per Click (PPC Campaign Management) is necessary for getting traffic to you website instantly and can be turned on/off depending on your budget. SEO is a long term process techniques gaining traffics your website because it is a organics result through ranking so much time, you need to state that as soon as you can afford it.

I'd actually take the results you experience with PPC (which keyword converted visitors into a lead/sale) and apply that to SEO tactics; that is, which keyword to focus SEO efforts on, not the other way around as another member had mentioned.

depends on the website. If your website is new, don't have any reputation, the PPC is must have strategy for warm up in the search engine and makes Google thinks the website is a formal business website.
In the meantime, the website need submit Google maps, buy a SSL, and get some high authority links from the local big website.
That's the proper method to improve the ranking for the new website.

The old website is different, they may have the high authority links, and good reputation. The sample is Forbes, and Godaddy. You will find the website don't have much backlinks but can rank the keyword "seo services" so high in the Google search engine.

Do the best to focus on the website brand, quality and reputation. The backlinks is a addon strategy for the keyword ranking in Google. Focus on the backlinks will get most negative results.

Forget PPC. If you are asking this silly question, then you probably don't have the budget or even the knowledge to do it.

Stick with free methods, do the best you can, save up a bit, then burn it on PPC, because there's no other way.

Either of them can come first.
It also depends on you and what you want to achieve.

Basically, i often advice webmasters to go for both.

    Here is why:

PPC is instant targeted traffic and what it means is,
you can start making money from the very first day
    you launch your website.

The downside is: it's expensive to run and you need to be
highly knowledgeable otherwise you can lose lots of money
    in a hurry.

While is SEO is a long term project and should
never be ignored by anyone who wants to make
    outstanding profit from free traffic.

At first you will need to work the backlinks needed or
hire a professional to do it for you. You can find yourself
spending money on this but once you get ranked for
a good number of your keywords it's just going to be
free targeted traffic all the way.

The downside is: if you don't hire the right person
or know how to build links the right way you can
be spending lots of money for nothing and even
    have your site penalized.

SEO is a free and a long term process, but PPC is paid and instant way of getting traffic. Today, most of people are relying on SEO because it is an organic process and less of investments as well.

I would suggest you to perform SEO fro your website. It is long term process, but drive organic result at less cost as comparison to PPC. Search Engine Optimization measured as a overall performance of your website. But, PPC target only fix keyword, that you bid.

Well, first of all, if you do your own SEO and set up your own PPC campaigns, you would spend time on the first one and money on the later.
Personally, I think you can do both, you can set up a PPC campaign, all the while concentrating on writing good quality content and doing some off page SEO as well.

You can't have one without the other, so it all starts with traffic, and unless you already have a list to work, or a means to afford advertising, you had better get your site indexed with SEO efforts for you will need to do this sooner or later if you ever hope to see success.

    Success to all,

I'm not an expert at either, because I don't do either of them

though logic would dictate the reason for doing PPC is because its an instant (if you get it right) showing in the serps.

where as SEO stands for Search Engine Optimist
