Basically, what you've to do is,

1. Choose an Affiliate product.
2. Create a landing/lead capture page.
3. Embed a free offer into the LC page.
4. Send targeted traffic into the LC page and build a list.
5. Start promoting to the list.

(Does it need or not a LC page? That depends by type of the product what you've chosen to promote)

However, there are thousands of things inside above steps you've to learn and well realize. It may takes several weeks, months or years perhaps.

Where to getting started?

Put "How to" at the beginnings of each above steps and search on Google.

Example, How to Choose an Affiliate product?

You'll get information, knowledge and more and more new questions.

Follow the same procedure........

Well first you'll need to pick a product.

Then you'll create a squeeze page with an optin form.

You're squeeze page will offer a free report to entice
people onto your list.

Set a one time offer (the affiliate product you picked)
after they sign up to your list.

To build your list, you're going to need to buy a few
solo ads.

Once your list gets to around 1000 then you can do
ad swaps to keep building your list.

Promote your affiliate products to your list.

Rinse... repeat... profit.

Gary,

I am going to disagree with you on that.

Buying solo ads to build a list is not the way to go. Solo ads is only good when you send people directly to an offer. The leads that you get from there are USELESS. They are not only on your list now but they are on 10-30 other lists too which means that they are still useless.

As a couple of people here have rightly mentioned, it's all about the list. You need a gift of high perceived value (in the nich you are working in), a decent squeeze page to offer the gift and an autoresponder to collect and store the details.

The reason for this is you now have a captured group of people who you KNOW are interested in a certain niche or topic (you know this as they were attracted by the gift you were offering). On top of this, as you have their details you can sell to them again and again, rather than having to constantly find new 'customers'.

It is then just a matter of sending regular communications to your growing list with interesting/informative/entertaining content, that also subtly 'sells' the affiliate products you find.

If you're going to be promoting products as an affiliate -- regardless of the network you're using -- you need to create a blog on your own domain as well as build a list. Your blog should consist of both product reviews and articles. You'll get traffic from both. The cool thing about this is that a number of the people who visit your blog will automatically sign up for you list without you having to do much. This means you'll be able to promote products to them over and over, again.
