Having Problems Blocking Referrer Spam

I have been trying to stop sites like trafficmonetize.org and 4webmasters.org htting my site and messing up my traffic stats.

I have followed the advice of this article to try and block them.

What Is Referrer Spam & How Can You Block It

As I am worried about my site slowing down, I followed the 2nd option in the article and pasted this in the .htaccess File. I went into my cpanel file manager and made the changes, but it hasn't made any difference.

I don't know if it's because I pasted it in the wrong place maybe?

Help appreciated.

That's a great article, it would be helpful to post the changes you did as it might help someone with the same problem in the future. Also let us know if it worked.

I'm having the same problem with spammers messing up my analytics, specially on prosper202. I will be replacing Google Analytics with Piwik as it has the filter integrated (besides the fact that I will not have Google creeping into my analytics)

I am using this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-block-referrer-spam/ for my blog to stop spam referrer. Hope it will also help you.

You can blog through Google Analytics. Go to Admin -> Click All Filters -> New Filter.. Then enter which website you want to blog.

Piwik has a list in Github with many of these spammer websites:
https://github.com/piwik/referrer-spam-blacklist

It can be used with G Analytics the way designbala stated on post #6.
