Why are companies so shady?

So today my girlfriend calls up comcast trying to get the bill a little lower because cable just cost so damn much. Shes not a very techy person, so she tells them Internet is important but we are trying to save a little on the cable bill. Comcast tells her get the economy internet its only a tad slower. So they dropped my cable from 15mbps with 4mbps speed burst to 384kbps!!! WTF!! Our living room TV is powered by a computer to watch hulu and Windows media center, so to my surprise I turn on Hulu and its lagging like i'm on a 56k and a 120meg file has a 5 hour download time. Shes like opps the lady said it would only be a little slower.

    48KBps is not a tad slower then 2375 Bytes not bits. You can't use a tad bit slower when you talking 1,000s of bytes

    It comes out to 49.4 times slower then what we had. If the lady would have said its 50 times slower then what you have she would have not downgraded.

      It's probably because the lady at the other end of the line has no idea what she is talking about and also though you browser the web and don't watch videos.

        Unfortunately (especially in these difficult economic times) for many companies only the bottom line (profits, ROI, share price and so on) are important. Customer service is left far behind.

        They advertise for staff and pay peanuts, so they recruit only 'monkeys'. They then only give those 'monkeys' the bare minimum of training.

        Hence your and many others' problems. The same thing happens all over the world. It's not that companies/corporations are out to cheat people, it just that the individual corporate entities sometimes seem to forget that without customers and good service, they have no business at all.

        Just my thoughts,
