I expect this change to boost confirmations on aweber signups

Hi everyone.

I've seen many threads here over the past few months on low "confirmation link" click ratios. In other words, someone signs up to your list, but never clicks on the confirmation link.

For me, it's still costing me bigtime. I just don't know why someone would sign up for a list and never bother to confirm (especially since I'm offering a pretty good free lesson in the parenting niche).

Anyway, I KNOW many of you are in the same boat. I just made a big change to my "thank you" page tonight by adding my own audio message. I am hoping to see an improvement in confirmations.

Here is my page:
Important - Read This! | Talking to Toddlers

If anyone has thoughts/feedback, I'm happy to hear it. I'm also happy to let you know if it's working or not (give it a few days for statistically valid data).

FYI, this was very quick and easy. I did the following:

1) Write my script with a text editor
2) Plug in my "Snowball" USB mic
3) Use Audacity (free) to record and cut out the bad takes
4) Add "compressor" effect and normalize to 0dB (easy in Audacity)
5) Export as MP3
6) Upload to server, using audio player plugin by 1pixelout (wordpress plugin)

Total time for this: 45 minutes.

I ALREADY recorded another variant also - this new variant gives an extra incentive to confirm by offering something extra for the confirmation. I'm just not ready to use it yet because the 'extra' is not ready. But best to have the audio ready, so I don't have to redo this work.

...crossing my fingers that this helps boost confirmations.

    Hi Chris,

The confirm page with detailed instructions is great... however, the auto-play audio I personally don't like.

I would have actually stayed to read the page thoroughly if there were an option to click play to listen to the audio if I wanted to... optionally... opt-in...

When I clicked your link and immediately heard the loud audio, all I did was quickly look for and click the X to close the browser tab.

Then I went back, (to give you my honest review) stopped the audio on the page and actually read what you had to say... which is a great detailed instructional tutorial, which should increase conversions.

A few options here to consider, for sure. I realize some people don't like the auto-play. Two other variants I'll try are:

    1) Play only if you click the play button
    2) WARN YOU that the message will start playing in 5 seconds, so to turn down your speakers if you have them cranked up.

That, along with auto-play, are the 3 main things I'm going to try out.

A friend of mine, who wasn't a well-known warrior at the time but is now, had a sign up.

I asked him (or he complained, I forget which) about how many confirmations he was getting. Not many. The confirmations were a big disappointment.

I gave him suggestions, he changed his sign up thank you page and has had 90+% confirmations ever since.

Now, I don't remember EXACTLY what I told him. But I can tell you this ... when it comes to confirmations, time is your enemy.

    Judy - you're teasing

Anybody who can give advice to take confirmations up above 90% is worth listening to. What do you remember about what you said? Time is the enemy, for sure ... you need the people to confirm quickly, or you lose them.

A very well known IM'er called Simon Hodgkinson wrote in one of his reports how he managed to improve his confirmation rate by adding a page with a list of steps to follow but also the promise of a bonus ebook or membership site.

Make sure it's related to the original sign up product and it would, preferably, be something only you can provide.

This way they have a good reason to confirm.

I'm trying it but I'm not at a stage that I'm getting enough sign ups to measure it properly.

You should make a "universal" video on your confirmation page telling the subscriber what to do.

You can make a talking head video or simple screenshots of what they should do to confirm their e-mail address to receive what they opted in for in the first place to your list.

If you don't have a video for your confirmation pages or you don't know how to make one (or your lazy) you can get a pre-made one one Here

I enjoyed your video, but I have to come back to listen to the full interview later. I have done YouTube videos for my natural health consulting business, so I know videos are more powerful. I will stay in touch,

There is more to the mix than just offering detailed instructions on the thank you page to getting higher confirmations. For example I have noticed if I am somewhat vague on my Name Squeeze I'll get a higher conversion rate but will suffer lower confirmation rates. But if I offer more detailed information on the squeeze then I get lower conversions but MUCH higher confirmation ratios. Which is pretty easy to understand when you stop to think about it. If you help your prospect to truly make their minds up regarding your offer on the Squeeze then chances are you will solidify their resolve to get your giveaway.

So my suggestion is to go back to your squeeze and see if it can be reworked anywhere.
