Subdomain use?

Hey All,

Just want to get your thoughts on using subdomains for micro niche sites. For example if I am in the weight loss niche and my site was (weightloss.com), would using a subdomain such as (cardio.weightloss.com) have any problems in terms of SEO, etc.

Just want to see if anyone is using this strategy or you're just going out and buying more domain names.

    I think buying more domains that target medium/high search volume keywords works better than using subdomains. Google doesn't seem to like 1 page subdomains.

    I don't do SEO on my sites though. I mainly use youtube to promote. I am just now thinking about affiliate marketing for my nightclub dancing for men 20 day class.

    But so far I have not had a problem marketing to my members and my 7steps product is doing fine.

    Out of curiosity, are you the first one to register it, or did you pick it up on the secondary market?

      No, I think he just used that as an hypothetical example.

      Anyway, yes, sub-domains are fine and you can use them like that to target longer keyword phrases. Cardio.weightloss.com, fast.weightloss.com, aerobic.weightloss.com etc.

    sub-domain names are very powerful and yes google does love them even if they are 1 page. I have been using them for years.

      Fair enough. If you did have that dom, you basically wouldn't have to do anything with it, just put it up for auction, then retire from the proceeds. Better than a Lotto win.

    There is a problem with sites having strong index.html pages with many links and good content but weak inner pages, whether sub-domains or sub-folders.

    I like to see each page as a site in itself: Put the strongest content you can on each page and link to it, google serves pages not sites.

    Google treats sub-domains as separate sites for SEO purposes. So you'll need to promote the sub-domain as if was a totally different site for SEO. The benefit is you save the cost of registering additional domains and you have additional branding opportunities.
