Monetization of a "sayings/wishes/quotes" website (500,000 pageviews /month)

Hi guys,

I have a website about birthday wishes, love sayings, status quotes, grief quotes, wedding sayings, good morning / good night quotes and so on...

The site is currently only monetraiserized with display advertising via Ezoic and makes about $3000 a month.

Many people told me that I earn far too little for my 500,000 pageviews, so I'm looking for new monetization strategies.

I've already thought about newsletter or e-commerce products, but I don't know how to set up this successfully.

I am grateful for any help.

Cheers

I'm sure you'll get good suggestions here - but one thing I would advise:

Many people told me that I earn far too little
Stop them right there and ask 'exactly WHAT would you to do earn more - and how would you do it?'

If they are knowledgeable/experienced they will have a suggestion or two - if they have no ideas to offer, they are probably just chattering.

Have you built lists - perhaps for 'motivational' , 'bridal humor', 'de-motivational', 'positive thought for the day'...etc.... as 'daily quotables' where you send a short email quote and message or very short story in some of the emails....and as the lists (more than one) grow you add links occasionally in the emails to products or books those on that list might want to buy....

That 'quotes' niche is not known as an easy niche to profit from - I'd say you are doing quite well so just keep expanding.

      Thanks Kay King,

I think then it would be better to just build one daily quote list because I really have a lot of topics on my site. Otherwise I think it will be too complicated. But Im not sure... Hm.

Quote types of website casts a wide net; so it is very hard to say , who exactly is visiting your website. That makes it very difficult to advertise things that they are more likely to buy. Any product that appeals to almost everyone would do pretty good.

That is exactly the problem. So far, I can't think of a product that suits to everyone

It doesn't have to be compllicated - you could start with one general category -motivational or inspirational or 'my better self'.

If you do well in building and monetizing a list with one category of quotes - you can always start a second list of 'relationship quotes' or 'animal quotes' or 'marriage/wedding quotes'....

The idea is to build a list of people that READ what you send them - and it can be daily or 2x a week or weekly - your choice. Then you can insert small stories - recommendations for books or products - and see if that will increase your revenue.

I've found many new list owners these day writer 'blast emails' - rather than prepare a full series of emails before they start the list. Writing emails as a 'series' is so much easier to manage - you can always insert an extra promotional email into the series but once all the emails are written and lined up in your autoresponder...it's can be handsoff much of the time and you can add emails to the series as you have time.

I know that's very simple - but it's amazing how many marketers don't do it.

Have you checked out JVZoo, Warrior+ and Clickbank? They have loads of affiliate products and you're likely to find something that would be of interest to your visitors.

When you're sending out your email sequences via your autoresponder you can include these offers and pickup more income.

My idea would be to have "get this quote on a t-shirt/framed/etc"

You'd need to develop a custom solution that automatically puts design on a product, but if you validated this method beforehand - you could potentially invest.

$3,000 per month is nothing to sneeze at, especially since
it is passive income with not much effort required from you
    besides regular maintenance and updates.

There are lots of great suggestions here, but some of those
will require you to do additional work on a regular basis. If I
were you I would think hard before I made any changes that
might upset the dynamics of your site.

Years ago, (about 4 or 5 I think) I had a website of motivational quotes mainly for sports enthusiasts and bodybuilders. I had subscribers sign up to get a daily motivational quote delivered to their email. In each email, I promoted custom decorative wall plaques for any quote of their choice.

Also, I sold a book from Amazon "The Big Book of Quotes" (which still is being sold). And, as you know with Amazon, you also get commissions from anything customers buy using your affiliate link. Amazon has recently lowered affiliate commissions drastically, but you can still make bank through targeting specific demographics.

I've never done it, but one idea might be to sell print on demand items. T-Shirts or Mugs with similar or even exact sayings on them. Or if you don't want to be the one creating the shirt, then just go to Amazon and find the shirts and link to already existing quote shirts/mugs etc.

    Definitely build a list.

Offer some freebie information that relates to your niche. Like, "download the 50 best love sayings instantly", or something like that, in exchange for them entering their email address through an opt-in form.

Then use that email list to market to regularly. Supply the people on your list with great information and additional sayings, while marketing great products to them as well.

If it were me and I was sending out an email to a list of people interested in "Birthday Wishes" I would give them some great examples of birthday wishes and then also market some great birthday gift suggestions to them for products that you are an affiliate for.

Same thing with your other categories; love sayings - some relationship related products, grief quotes - some sympathy related products, wedding products - great wedding gift ideas, etc.

I know everyone's always saying build a list, but is there really a sector of people interested in "Birthday Wishes"? Is that some kind of hobby group?

I suppose you could try, but events like birthdays, weddings etc. seem like a one-off hit to me. I'd go with promoting gifts onsite and then remarket similar products to the buyers.

        correctly recognized, Frank.

I think I will first create a general daily quote list.

Then I ask the subscriber what Quote topics he is interested in. I only mention topics that can also be reasonably monetized. (motivation, love, humor...)

Birthday or other one-time events are not very effective I think

With such a good traffic it should be rather okay to make a good income.
Just want to throw some ideas out there:
    - Sell printed wishes through 3rd party vendors
    - Affiliate selling on Amazon.com
    - Promoting other people's content (for example, someone selling their wish on a mug in some shopify store)

Perhaps you can run some tests to see what users are willing to pay for

I would advise that you don't listen to them and pursue your vision. Otherwise pursuing too many birds using the same website is not one of the best thing.

Saint7, congrats. Be aware that you are in a great position.

I have the following thoughts in mind:
    • Different ad networks: experiments with MediaVine or AdThrive and see whether you can achieve a higher RPM.
    • Do not build a list: somehow everybody thinks that having email subscribers has a value these days. They do - but only if you can provide true value. And as your audience is so vast and diverse - which kind of value could you provide instead of merely spamming them?
    • Try to be an Amazon affiliate: although they have recently decreased commission in most categories, your diverse audience could bring you good money when they click out and your cookie is being placed. Maybe try this on US traffic only (first) and then see how it goes.

You could also try to offer a general make money online product.

I mean everyone loves money and everyone wants to have more, so even though it's not the topic of your website, it's something you could link to.

At least this is what I would try out - of course it only makes sense if you can offer a good product/ course.

I think you should try parked domains, so you can monitize via parked domain names as well, and focus on content for main website which will be display on multiple domains.

I would say incorporate quotes from books and sell those as an amazon affiliate. That seems like the most direct way to target your audience. You could also promote self-help courses through an email list.

    Hi Saint7.

Considering you mentioned Birthday wishes, love sayings, wedding sayings (etc.) ... What about giving them the option to send Greeting Cards with similar (or the same) sayings/quotations? Ideally, something like:

Now Send A Person This Wonderful Message In A Beautifully Designed
Greeting Card ― And Have It Delivered To Them By 11:30AM Tomorrow

As someone who produces INSPIRATIONAL SPOKEN WORD VIDEOS based on picture quotes, I can tell you that this niche's market LOVE self-help / self-improvement books

Here's what I would do if I were in your position

Step #1: Check my analytics and figure out my top 10 pages in terms of TRAFFIC

Step #2: Figure out the THEMES of my hottest pages

Step #3: Create short BOOKLETS for each of the hottest pages

Step #4: Set up EMAIL COLLECTION pages for each of the short booklets - give them away in exchange for an email address

Step #5:: Set up an AUTO AD system throughout my site that promotes the 10 books' sign up ages

Step #6: Send website links to the mailing list to "RECYCLE" my traffic (ie., get them back on my site to drive up Ezoic ad views even more)

Step #7: Include automatically scheduled links to my KINDLE BOOKS in my mailing list

The key to success: Base your monetization on your audience's ACTUAL BEHAVIOR not based on HOW you think they should act.

Just to add on this, think about pas-wording hottest quotes and give access to anyone who pays something small say $0.5 .
