I haven't sold pictures but I have some insight on the matter.

Photographers commonly place "perv" ads on Craigslist and
elsewhere to get giirls to pose naked for their portfolios. Perhaps
it is because there is a steady market for cheesecake photos.

In any case what you should be doing is discovering what sort
of pictures buyers want, and publishing those sorts of pictures.

Some market research is in order. It will be challenging to
find out what publishers need if you don't approach them
directly and ask. They'll probably ignore emails. I suggest
    the telephone.

      Hi Kenneth,

If you go to iStockPhoto.com and take a look at Most Popular Files you will get an idea of the photo niches and styles that sell.

The top spot at the moment is a photo of a child blowing a dandelion clock - 12,000+ downloads.

Top quality, fresh looking shots of business people will sell and sell!

      -Mark.

Just another point on the selling of Stock Photos...

Sites like Getty Images routinely charge several hundred dollars PER PHOTO for their royalty free images.

Also if you have a lot of themed shots, a CD of 50 images again will sell for $3-500 as royalty free.

For a top-draw, in demand shot, offering it as rights-managed through, for example, Getty will net you a few thousand every time the shot is used.
