Facebook Shuts Down Trading Group

Yup....

I just learned that Facebook shut down a trading group that had like 150,000+ members on it.

No group, especially when you violate their terms, is SAFE.

There are many groups in FB that rely on learning and sharing ideas on many topics but these days, you are not guaranteed that you group will stay on FB forever.

Pretty worrisome if not wholly surprising. This Wall Street Bets story is really something ... *really* seems to rile "the powers that be", while at the same time presenting a pretty unsympathetic "victim slash villain" (hedge fund 'suits') and unveiling a legion of often quite clever retail traders.

that trading group was probably not violating any tos as of a weel ago but because of the event the last week .. Facebook banned them

if you own facebook stock in anyway .. you support what Facebook is doing .
if you have money in mutual fud or index funds that invest in the restricting speech ..

you fully support the censorship and end of fee speech

It's a difficult problem when just a few companies run the show (Google censoring widely used chat app Element the other day another example of this ... akin to blaming Google if someone used Chrome to access illegal content)

Smart people like Balajis Srinivasan believe decentralized media is "the way out" of this, but the super aggregators and network effects obviously present big barriers to that scaling (in the near term, at least)

Maybe their behavior could involve a measure of bias; I have seen a lot of garbage on Facebook that deserves shutting down, and they allow it. However, there is another side to consider: whenever you sign up to some's network, you need to follow their rules and play on their terms, especially as it relates to advertising.

Probably because "financials" (read debt) are such a problem for so many, and few, if any, of the advertisers are even vaguely qualified to "teach" what they preach. And they spam PMs a lot too; bitcoin being the current vogue. Historically I've challenged few to reveal their professional creds.

It's not surprising. People get scammed a lot on trading groups. You don't even know who's real and who's not. The spamming on those groups are annoying
