given a company name, how can I find its website url?

I have a list of company names + phone# / city / state.

How can I find their main website URL and/or a google business page?

What tools are available to do this?

UPDATE: forgot to mention I have just shy of 1000 of these contacts. I do know how to look something like this up on Google. I'm looking for a tool that lets me drop in a list of leads and find their website URL.

Google? and I am not trying to be a smart tail... but Company name and City will usually pull something, A BBB listing, or a business directory listing?

The next option would be the state website, and do a business search and see what may or may not be listed there.

You can do a reverse whois lookup

Use an AI that is connected to the internet like GPT4

And you can contact them telephonically

There must be DOZENS of tools that IMers have put out in the past 10 years that do this stuff, usually as part of something that scrapes leads from the web or helps you build prospect lists. I probably have a couple of them already. It's just not something I've needed to do, and I don't know what tools to even look at.

My question is about WHAT TOOLS are available.

I know how to run a Google query or call someone on the phone.

But I'm not going to waste my time for 1000 of them when a tool can do it in a few minutes.

I'm pretty sure everyone that responded to you understands
that you would like some magic tool that you can just give
your list to, where it will provide you with web addresses.

Maybe there is such a thing, an app or a tool, but you will
need to search for it or maybe even develop one yourself.

If I were you, I would get on GPT4, check how many queries
of yours it can handle at once, and work with that.

GPT4 might be able to take all 950 items on your list at once,
        but I doubt it.

While doing this may be a drag, every now and then, people
have to do some actual work to get whatever it is they need.

ChatGPT cannot access the web. I am using it to extract the biz name, phone# and other details from a larger document, and it does that very well. Unfortunately, their web URL is not provided, just a phone#.

I have seen tools that do this. I just don't recall immediately which ones. Given there are a million or so IMers on this site, I figured a few of them might remember.

I am aware of ChatGPT's limitations which is why I said GPT4.

GPT4 is the paid version and it connects to the internet.

I frequently use it to research things online.

            The monthly fee is $20.

Or you can pose your question to ChatGPT, it probably knows what you are referring to.

            Good luck with your list.

I have ChatGPT 4 and it tells me it is unable to connect to the internet.

Perhaps you will be kind enough to mention the specific tools, other than Google and ChatGPT that have been mentioned here as I seem to have missed them.

This is a marketing / list-building question. People seem to treat it like a programming or "how to hire a VA to do this manually for me" type of question.

I'd delete this entire thread if I could as it has been totally unproductive and people keep insisting that they know what I want better than I do.

Nobody besides yourself has insisted upon anything, I kindly
offered some suggestions and tried to be helpful, as the others
                did also.

Perhaps in the future you will try to be a little more polite to
people who replied, instead of being insulting.

Or better yet, next time, why don't you put on your thinking
cap and figure things out for yourself instead of wasting
                other people's time.

That is all from me since arguing is against the forum rules.

Here is what I got when I asked about this:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. However, it seems there might be a misunderstanding - I, functioning based on the GPT-4-Turbo model, do not have the capability to browse the internet or access real-time data. The feature you're referring to seems to be an integration called "Browse with Bing," which allows certain versions of ChatGPT to access the internet for up-to-date information.

Since I cannot provide real-time search capabilities, I'm not able to directly fetch the website URLs for the companies you've listed. If this feature becomes available to me in the future, I would be able to assist with such tasks. For now, you may need to use the aforementioned manual or automated methods external to our conversation to accomplish your goal.

I have scraper tools... I can pull e-mails from websites, or phone numbers or whatever else all day long.... when you get into Niche Specific, and website URL's and phone numbers the data sets you will find to use ( Google ) will have a phone number, but will not have the URL readily available. By default Google my business accounts track calls and website clicks.. so they prefer you click the "website" link, or press on the "call" link.

If you start scraping through the SERPS and you will have a hard time finding all of the business listed in the 3 pack let alone others that are not.

Here is MY reality... you have spent more time looking for a solution, than it would take to do it manually - YES, there are scrapers, none that I know of that you insert a set of business names and have it go looking for data - they generally work the other way around... you might insert a search term and it will kick back data for you - but as you have said the data is incomplete

Im a programmer... and what you are asking for is way easier said than done The validation checks to determine if the website it may have found for a name, city and state is a bit daunting - even if you could scrape this.. you would still need to go through and validate each one to determine if it is correct ( again because what you are asking for is easier asked than done. )

Im not trying to be a piss ant here... im just giving you solutions based on my experience in a close proximity to your request as to what works and what doesnt.

So do I. However, if I already own a tool that does it, or there's one I can buy for less than it would cost me to build it (based on the value of my time) then I'll happily buy one instead.

I did get ChatGPT to write the skeleton of a tool that I've fleshed-out a bit that works, except the service I'm using has been having some response-time issues. I'm waiting to hear back from their Support team (that is mainly available during normal biz hours M-F).

I'm asking if anybody KNOWS OF ANY TOOLS THAT DO THIS.

I KNOW there are several tools that have been sold by and to IMers right here over the years, yet look at all of the replies that go off in other directions. It's just so much noise. Imagine hundreds of people replying to everything you post with all sorts of irrelevant stuff and not one is answering your question... how does that differ from spam you get in your email?

I understand what you are asking... I do this type of search often... granted not 950 in a single niche... but that just adds to the complexity of what you are asking.

Since you are looking for Niche specific... you could look up say "Fence Contractors Dallas TX" and the 3 pack for that search will appear. The very bottom of the 3 pack panel is a button for "More businesses" and you can pull up the list there. You can then quickly identify those with and without websites, ,and the phone number will be there for every listing

What makes this difficult is yes in the data provided using the above method, the phone number would be scrapable, but the URL would not be ( its a button / link, and not scrapable text ).

In my business, we are looking for businesses that DO NOT have websites, and this is the method we use in finding that information.

I think, didnt try, but I am sure we have in the past that the likes of AI would be able to produce the phone number - its text, but not the web address

You do realize that such a list is likely to be incomplete and inaccurate, right?

I'm using data obtained from industry membership groups or government agencies that are kept current and accurate. The one I'm working with right now just happens to not have the web URLs for its members or their contact emails. The limitation here is that it may be missing the smallest, more remote, and newest members -- unlikely prospects for what I'm doing.

For my needs its accurate enough... I design and build websites along with other brick and mortar type services. My outreach is physically in person... which obviously changes the dynamic considerably. I work primarily with business' with addresses other than their house - hard to upsell Local SEO without the physical address. I am betting this is not a needed consideration for you.

I do pull local city business registrations once a month, so i work between the 2 - either way it is an amount of handwork, to compile a list that meets my personal criteria.
