INTERNET MARKETING

Wanting to see if fellow warriors could help me out. I am consulting with a business owner that has a fitness facility. I was wanting to try and get him some PR especially trying to get some local news reporters to come to the gym to do a story, etc. Anybody have any ideas on how i could do this? It would be awsome for the timing of the year. December and January are especially busy because of people making new years resolutions to loose weight and get in shape and i want to help him capatalize on this time of year.

Well, you need a unique angle or hook before you go contacting your local media outlets. They're not going to just come out and film the gym for the purpose of giving you free advertising.

So, you've got to get creative!

Maybe plan some sort of "drive" where those that bring in a new/unwrapped toy (with a value of $XX or more) can get a free 30 day gym membership. The toys of course would be given to an outlet that helps "less fortunate" kids and then it's a win-win.

You've got a "story" now that you can make known to your local media outlets and are more likely to get exposure. You do good for kids AND you build a list of those who might continue to use the gym's services after their free membership expires.

This is just one idea but whatever you decide to do... get creative and come up with a really great angle before contacting the local press.

  If some outsourcing is in your budget, ask the resident PR expert, Dana_W. As a former local reporter, she can no doubt find you a workable angle.
