Why Doesn't My Site Convert Traffic To Buyers

Hi,

My blog is located at:

Dream Cruise Vacations On Any Budget

I get around 50-60 unique visitors a day. I have checked my Analytics stats and there are viewers of my site that go to my affiliate programs. I track these visitors to see where they're going and I get quite a few clicks to these programs I promote.

So, why do they not convert to buyers?

I am not doing something I should.

BTW, it has nothing to do that my site is on a subdomain.

Thanks,

South Bay Bones

Do you mean why are people not buying the travel secrets book?

What exactly is the product you're wanting them to buy? Cruise packages?

Lack of focus. You need to tell people exactly what they
need to do to get their desire - A cheap cruise perhaps.

    Hey Southbay,

Yes it's definitely because things aren't direct enough. If you are going to be that passive about affiliate links, you'll probably make more money using adsense or something like that instead.

With the affiliate links, you need to get the person focused on the link and tell them how their life will be better once they see what's on the other side of the link.

You can warm them up pretty easily by saying something like "I loved this cruise and I got a killer deal on it by using techniques I learned in this book here" and then have your link.

It's also sometimes a good idea to not give away the name of the item you're promoting...then they kinda have to click just to see what it is...

    Hope that's useful

How many is "quite a few" clicks? Of your 50-60 daily uniques, how many are clicking on one of your affiliate links? Are all of those clicking on the same one or not?

If you get 60 uniques per day and 5% of them click on an affiliate link, you have 3 people seeing your affiliate offers. And if all 3 click on a different affiliate link, you only get 1 person in front of each offer.

If the offers convert at 2% you gotta get 50 people in front of each offer. At 1 per day, that's 50 days to make a sale on each affiliate program. Or 3 sales total in 50 days. That's roughly one sale every 17 days.

    Hi Southbay

I did free a webinar on "conversion secrets" just 2 weeks ago. Pitty you weren't there.

Firstly Lance's calculations are a good indicator that perhaps your expectations are a little to high, too early.

Now, I cheked your blog and there are quite a few factors that you can improve on. There's not enough time or space to tell you all right here but here are a few things:

    1. Your own site is not well optimized. Your keyword targetting is poor to start with ... plus much more.
    2. Your ads loo like ads and are incorrecly positioned. They are dead easy to avoid and people do avoid them.
    3. 'YOU' are not collecting optins! Yet the ebook people are doing so ... they're collecting YOUR visitors.
    4. Unfortunately too many affiliates like yourself focus on a "good product"! The customner never sees the product until they buy. Your decision of what to promote should be based on the quality of the sales letter.
    5. Learn a little about copywriting and then use your new skills to assess the sales letters. Also your own articles are long and featureless - no bold, underline, subheadings, bullets etc. Not appetizing to read and warm up to your messages!
    6. Have you checked your stats for how long each visitor stays on your site? Use Google Analytics. It is free and easy.
    7. The ebook has a poor sales letter. You may find that their CB sales aren't that great. Their pricing strategy is wrong ... you rarely pay $40 for a real paperback book on the same subject, why would you pay that much for PDF! They ought to start low and then offer extras after, to build up to $40 or more.
    8. The second product you're promoting is eye-catching due to its animation but is terribly annoying coz the letters disappear and it is hard to read the vertical writing! Their sales letter is extremely poor. Their banner is a kind of a logo that doesn't appear on their home page. The logo and the page must have been designed by a kid let loose on some animation package.
    9. The third product is again collecting your hard earned traffic!
    10. Do you know what the cookie length is for each of those products!? Will you get paid if one of those people optin to your merchant's lists buys a product after 3 months!
You need to stop channeling traffic away form your site so early on. Offer some enticing material in return for optins. Send a few informative articles by email or bring the readers back to your site for each new blog post. Build a relationship and then offer some products via email and offer an exciting bonus too.

Look don't be disheartened. Your blog looks neat. These things are just simple little fixes. Make enough of them and then you'll look back 6 months from now and you go WOW I can't believe how different life is after just a few fixes. And you can then buy me a Latte'

What I find is that most people make a couple of changes ... they don't get flooded with orders overnight and then they dismiss other simple fixes!

They start looking for magical secrets and lose their shirt buying all sorts of fancy programs. You don't need any of that. Just keep making those little improvemnts and you'll be amazed ...

    I hope this helps.

Gee - that is awesome advice.

I would add - why have you set it up like a blog? If you want sales - your landing page needs to concentrate on that one thing only.

Getting 50 uniques is good - but the % going to your eBook sales pages would not be nearly enough.

I think the site looks really nice and the content
seems to be fine. My suggestions are to remove
the blog functions such as posted by, date, tags
and archives. Remove the social bookmarkers and
focus your attention on getting conversions and
not pings. Subject lines should contain relevant
keywords and the articles should be keyword rich.
Push better quality affiliate offers, professional
ones such as hotels and airfare.

As to the subdomain issue that you seem to think
does not have a negative impact, nothing could
be further from the truth. Please register a proper
domain name and setup separate hosting as people
aren't going to buy stuff from a blog that contains
a bunch of IM rants. People look at all of that and
it doesn't make a good impression.

BTW, check the CPA section, I posted an affiliate
tutorial for the travel industry this morning.
