Buying an Expired Domain Registered with GoDaddy

There is a domain that I would like to buy. It is registered with GoDaddy and it expired on December 17th. When should I be able to buy this or will GoDaddy hang on to it and park it or want to sell it for a high price? I have not had any experience with GoDaddy but I have heard some negative things about it.

GoDaddy has program specifically helping you do that.. I think it costs $69 last time i check.. can not remember what it is called.. GoDaddy will not try to sell you for higher price :-) they are not in the domain speculation business.. they can help you grab it the moment it becomes available.

  • It costs them very little to hold domains. I wouldn't expect them to release it any time soon.

I used to buy domains that had expired ... back about 2000 but now its so complicated and your chances of getting them if they are any good for a decent price are pretty slim.

GoDaddy is generally pretty sketchy. If you can and there is another domain that you could use instead with a different registrar I would highly suggest that.

I have heard that you can buy domains that were indexed for $5. I have yet to find one of those. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Are there any auction sites other than Godaddy, Sedo, Buydomains or Afternic that offers actual deals? I think Oryan would benefit from that kind of a site.

Make a backorder in Godaddy for this domain first. I beleive the price is around $19.95. If nobody else backorders it and the original domain owner does not renew it, it will be yours after around 90 days of the expiry date. If there is more than one backorder, then it will go to an open auction where other people can join in as well.
