Membership site setup

should I set up a membership site as a html static site or blog?
It is a niche lifestyle type site with articles, breaking news, videos

It was originally on a static html set up but since then I lost my database (bad host) and need to begin all over again.

I prefer html static site. I've set up 2 wp blogs and never got anywhere close to the results, traffic, I get with static sites. I did the wp with seo plugins, pinging, autocontent, etc and never achieved what others have using wp. plus, I don't want to micromanage the comments daily, weekly. I am considering using the wp premium themes but as a xhtml static version.

Yeah, I forgot to add they all have their own unique username and login and it will be php driven

I think that it depends on how much content that you plan on having. Wordpress is the best choice for a content-rich membership site. However, if you just want to occasionally upload files for your members to download a static HTML site is a good choice.

I have used EasyMemberPro.com in the past and really like the robust system.

    I hope this helps!

    Hey...

One of the reasons that I've developed Rapid Residual Pro, membership site and full media software, is because of issues with other solutions out there for simple, membership site solutions.

Wordpress can work and Wishlist is really getting things together - to me though, it's still open-source software (Wordpress) and that means that there are always going to be more security issues than other solutions.

Not that it's a huge issue and certainly - getting the site up is more important than worrying about what solution or software you use. However, if you've just dealt with one host that cost you your database, then you likely understand the bigger picture.

Nothing is perfect and there are some really great solutions out there for you. The key is knowing exactly what you want to accomplish and what you are going to offer, to whom.

Static or Dynamic isn't really an issue in the long run. Secure or not secure, hands off or hands on, one fee or monthly fee, high priced, low priced, front end fee or free, etc. seem to me to be bigger - more relevant questions to be asking I think.

Also, do you want an all in one solution with an affiliate program built in or will that be separate? Do you want levels of memberships? Will you have a marketplace inside of your members area where you can offer additional products? Will the lessons be delivered in timed sequence or accessible all at one time?

Lot's of solutions out there, just make sure you are asking the right questions, in my opinion.

I really like using a timed feed of the media as this keeps the people in the system longer. I also like a system that uses a god upgrade technique so I can get people in cheaply (or free), show them some quality content and then go for the upgrade.
