What is Cloaking?

It depends on which kind of cloaking you are referring to.

    Link cloaking:
This is a legitimate method to disguise an affiliate link so it is not so obvious that it is an affiliate link. The reason is to prevent the customer from modifying the link url to get the commission himself or cut off the commission from the affiliate.

    Page cloaking:
This is an unethical way to trick the search engines by displaying a highly keyword-optimized page to the spider bots (so the page gets a high ranking) and then displaying a different page with useful content just for the human visitors. The page can be changed dynamically by detecting whether the visitor is a bot or human.

This is just my understanding. You can get more details by doing a search on Google.

    Regards,
    Alex

If you're cloaking links - generally, no.

If you're cloaking pages, and you get caught - definitely.
